This sounds good all around. First, a good recruiter leaves the Vols. Second, for our return trip to OSU in a few years, is there anything other than the sideline chest bump that Taylor brings to the table for their offense? The Cowboys have traded a Fedora for a backwards ball cap.
Does the step up in title mean that he will have reached the professional level at which he will wear his hat correctly?
I think "As the Vols Burn" would have been a better title.
The real question will be how he holds up under the scrutiny, criticism and second guessing from the same naysayers that assaulted CMR - repeatedly questioning whether he could adequately handle the dual roles of HC and Calling Plays. Trooper will face similar questions, only his will be whether he can effectively juggle the responsibilities of Calling Plays and the all important task of being the Hype-man.
I'm a little surprised that Vol fans are so upset by this and that rival fans think this spells doom in Knoxville. Position coaches leave all the time from every program. Good recruiters are not difficult to find.
I don't think our program will pack it in if Eason leaves. It happens, programs replace good coaches with other good coaches, and life in the SEC goes on. I recently saw that this is Tennessee's 13th Jan 1 (or later) bowl game in 16 years. A departing wide receiver coach doesn't single-handedly destroy that type of success.
I wonder how he will get along with T. Boone Pickens. HA HA

I have to respectfully disagree with that! Recruiting is the lifebllod of any college football program, and I think good recruiters are, in fact, are and hard to find.
Also, UT hasn't been to a BCS bowl since '98 or '99, so maybe he's not that great at recruiting after all!
CarolinaDawg - good point re Trooper maybe not being all he is cracked up to be. Of course, to me getting a BCS bid isn't toomuch to brag about unless it comes with an SECC. This Sugar Bowl, to me, is pretty hollow considering we can't even win the division against a thoroughly average UF and UT.
However, I still don't think finding recruiters is THAT difficult. For example, TN and UGa have been above average to excellent (for the most part) for the last 20 years, despite running through dozens of assistant coaches. They'll be somebody else in there decent.
Trooper Taylor's departure by itself wouldn't necessarily be a crushing blow for the Vols, but losing Taylor and David Cutcliffe in the span of a few days has to hurt. They've lost both their best motivator and their best disciplinarian (remember what a basket case that offense turned into while Cutcliffe was gone?), and I think that's got to set them back a little, at least in the short term.
