- Pat O'Brien's -- Best patio in the universe. Sure the Hurricane is solid, but their Category 5 Margarita is even better. Thirsty? Try the 384 ounce Hurricane. It's the booze companion to John Candy's "Ol' 96er" steak. (image right)
- Jazz at Preservation Hall - Warning get a belly full of booze before you go. They serve nothing there. It's a place you drop by for 30 minutes or so.
- Rental Cars -- If you're staying in the French Quarter or the Central Business District VERY close to Canal, you shouldn't need a car (rental or otherwise). Use MapQuest to confirm. Everything worth seeing can be walked. If you're driving, park once and don't move it again. It's not worth the hassle.
- Garden District Tours -- Great place to walk around. I don't know if the Trolly connecting the Quarter and Garden District are back up and running. If not, catch a cab over there. Beautiful historic homes and architecture. Just walk around. You don't need a guide; although, if you're a dork you could always stop by and see the Real World New Orleans House. (Yo - that's a shout out to RoyOrbisonDawg).
- Harrah's -- Full Casino with table games, craps, poker, etc. Located along the Riverwalk just a few blocks from the Convention Center. Just keep the Blackberry Bandit of Tift County away from your table, and you should be fine. Some women just ain't lucky.
- The 3 for 1 Drink Special -- In the afternoon you'll see dudes standing outside of bars along Bourbon Street with 3 for 1 or even 4 for 1 drink special signs. It's 3 drinks PER PERSON for the cost of 1. You can't just give away the other two drinks. In other words, if three of you walk into a bar and ask for the 3 for 1 special, they will give you nine drinks. It's a bit of a scam, BUT it's still the cheapest booze in the world.
- Music -- Stand outside of a bar. If you like the music go in. Every place down there has something to listen to.
- Nudie Bars -- I've actually never been to one here. No. Seriously, I haven't. But from the looks of the "talent" (or complete lack thereof) standing outside of the doors, the quality has gone from bad to worse since Katrina.
- Shopping -- Personally, I like to stroll along Royal Street. It's the street "to the right" of Bourbon if Canal is to your back. Don't walk down Bourbon Street in the day light. The filth and smell will revolt you.

I was in New Orleans pre-Katrina for a bachelor party. Best rule for nudie bars, or really anywhere: If there's somebody outside telling you how great the place is, stay away.
Best places pre-Katrina were Hustler, Gold Club and we had some fun at Barely Legal. PLENTY has happened in the 30 some odd months since I was last there though.
The Streetcars are up and running from the Garden District to Downtown.
Watch out for calling them trolleys. The locals are a little sensitive to the terminology.
What's recommended for those of us driving in the morning of the game who plan to spend the day in NO before the game? Any recommended bars/restaurants within walking distance of the Dome?
Toon,
Get parked. Anywhere. Hit the Quarter. It's a mile or so walk to the dome from Bourbon St, but you'll be with 50,000 other folks walking the same direction.
just stick your head into the first bar that's overrun with Dawg Fans. lol.
A few more notes...
(1)Do NOT drink more than one Hand Grenade from Tropical Isle. Repeat, DO NOT drink more than one.
(2) Drop into The Cat's Meow for a little Karaoke entertainment. They have a stage set up that makes the venue. Regarding the performaers, some are good, some are bad, all are fun!
(3) If you are adventurous, go down into the Dungeon after midnight. Take a girl with you, if you can.
(4) Do NOT, under any circumstances, talk back to a New Orleans cop. The ONLY response you need to know is, Yes Sir or Yes Ma'am. They are generally lax about most things except urinating in public. But, if they tell you to move your ass or something, use your only response as advised above.
(5) Try to have a meal at Galatoire's if you have a chance. Great food, great atmosphere and COO Melvin Rodrique is good to Dawgs fans.
You forgot cafe au lait and beignets at Cafe du Monde. Nothing like working off those late night munchies with good coffee and sugary beignets!
One of my favorite restaurants in Nawlins is the Red Fish Grill. It's not cheap... but anything that good ain't gonna be cheap!
Emeril's New Orleans... order the red snapper. It's andouille crusted and my mouth waters just thinking about it!
One afternoon, go into an oyster bar, buy a dozen oysters and give the shucker a good tip. You should get 13-14 good sized oysters. Pair it with a Nawlins Bloody Mary and enjoy lunch!
Finally, one more thing to watch for are the "women" with Adams Apples, or large hands, or large feet, or any combination. Even if you have too many Hurricanes or Bloody Marys, do not get picked up by them. You will be in for a real surprise when you try for third base!!!!
