Did Felton and the players get the memo regarding last night's game? The one that clearly stated:
- We were playing the 2 time defending national champs.
We were playing the Gators.
A win could've ignited a post-season run of some variety.
That their coach's job was on the line.
While I have been critical of Felton this season in many respects. I have defended him in one key area up to now. Until last night, I really felt like his players were still fighting for him and/or each or other.
From my seats watching it up close and personal, I felt that all parties pretty much rolled over last night. Granted, the officiating stunk. Granted, we're banged up. Granted, the Gators are good. But I'm pretty sure that we were a two point favorite last night. Vegas didn't build all of those bright shiny buildings by being woefully out of touch with reality. Yet, we didn't really compete.
Felton described it this way to the AJC:
"Tonight we looked like a team that had hit some sort of wall," said Georgia coach Dennis Felton, clearly befuddled about what he had witnessed. "We were just sluggish and a step slow to most every and in all parts of the game. ... We were slow to loose balls, to rebounds, to stopping drivers. Offensively we were sluggish and hesistant. It was that sort of night for us all around."That was almost as pathetic as the final two weeks of Jirsa's Death March towards unemployment. And it warrants mentioning that Ron Jirsa -- who was a complete boob -- did in fact make the post-season BOTH years.
Per Sundiata Gaines
"We did come out playing flat," acknowledged senior co-captain Sundiata Gaines. "We had no effort, and we were real tentative on offense. Florida's not a great defensive team, and that's the most disappointing thing about it. We had a lot of opportunities, and we really didn't take them. We really showed no emotion, no effort."The season rolls on.
"Just because guys aren't playing to their potential or giving their all doesn't necessarily mean they're quitting," Gaines said. "As a team we just have to understand we have to play hard to have a chance. With the team we have, we have no other alternative. Other teams might be to take a few possessions off, but we can't." (emphasis added)

Unbearable. Jacking up horrible shots from all over the court. Turnovers every other trip down the court. Everytime Woodbury touched the ball I threw up in my mouth a little bit. That guy could mess up a wet dream. He even had a lane violation, attaboy.
I'm taking the philosophy for the remainder of the year that if I don't ACTUALLY see or hear the final whistle blow, I won't know what happened and thusly can remain neutral. I listened until 30 seconds left so I'm holding out hope we pulled it out last night.
Bring on Spring Football.....
If you can't get up for Florida at home, you can't get up. Apparently, the boys didn't get the memo that UGA fans REALLY hate to lose to the gators...IN ANYTHING. At least I do, anyway.
I really hate jumping on any "fire so-and-so now" bandwagon unless that person has committed Harrick-like sins.
But this is really getting ugly while our biggest football rivals in the South division (UF, UT) have done and are doing very well for themselves in basketball. I can't think of one other relevant sport at UGA that we really suck at. I don't care how hurt or depleted our team is, we should have guys on the bench who can pull out at least ONE big victory. Football players (among other sports) love to come to UGA and it's not just becuase the team is good. There is no excuse for not having a respectable basketball team in Athens...ever.
It's time to wake up from this nightmare.
This may be Damon Evans' biggest decision so far while AD...
I really really hope Evans looses sleep over this one. I hate to jump on the fire him bandwagon also but when you only win 5 road games in 5 seasons and you cant get your team up for FLORIDA you have to go at the best school in the nation.
Not only do we pride ourselves in sports but also in character and pride. This reflects in both of those areas and it does not please me at all that our guys, that we pull so hard for, could allow themselves to GIVE UP! I dont think any other team at the University of Georgia would ever roll over like this team has done year in and year out.
Im sorry i have had enough...Felton dont have to go home... but he cant stay here!!!!
I think this is the first game I have ever felt like leaving early, now I feel like I should have. The team showed no effort which is inexcusable against the Gators. Seeing the trailer trash Gator fans celebrate in our place made me sick. The really sad part was how everyone there could see how pathetic the effort from the team was. Our fans let the Gator fans start the "...It's great to be a Florida Gator" without a peep from the Dawg fans. Going to be hard to get ANYONE in the stands with efforts like that.
I have heard that Evans has said that they were going to give Felton one more year. Does anyone know if that is true or not??
....and both basketball fans are upset about this.
I think we've caught SCUm football attitude. They've never believed they could win, so they'll have a few games of great play, but will ineveitably tank when its time to really compete.
We came into this game not believing we could win and didn't even try. No heart on this team. Just no heart.
