If I were a protester, the last person I would want to try to take down would be Hershal Walker, Mixed Martial Artist who is carrying a flaming aluminum bat.
Ain't nothing for Herschel to whip a protester's ass while doing 1,000 sit-ups and 1,000 push ups. He used to run sometimes with my roommate. After 7 miles, Herschel wouldn't even be breathing hard. Then, he would eat a whole package of Oreos. Talk about Breakfast of Champions.
How bout Hershel gettin into the politics of it? Damn right Herschel. Bring the jobs back to America.
And supporting a despotic, authoritarian government that subjugates a peaceful, nonviolent protest is helping our economy...how? Oh yeah, because the Chinese need to keep making cheap products for Wal-Mart. My bad!
Yes, we are better off my using cheap labor to keep the price of our goods down. We are already facing enough price pressures from commodities (hopefully the bubble bursts soon), especially food. The last thing we need is to drastically increase labor costs.

Some candidates want you to believe that they are the candidate of change, Herschel is the real deal.

I don't think Herschel would have taken out any protesters. He would have just run over them ala Bill Bates. RUNNING, RUNNING WITH THOSE BIG THIGHS!
I'm pretty sure there is an anti-aging element running through Herschel's blood. He looks about 10 years younger than Greg Oden.

The point of protesting / boycotting the Olympics this year is not "politics," it's "human rights." Labeling it as political is the media's way of making the protesters look like the bad guys. We should be focused on what's going on in China.
Love ya Hershel, but this Dawg would have been more proud if you had sat this run out.
My take on the Beijing Oympics is that you should penalize the country, not the athletes. Which is to say that Beijing never should've been granted the '08 Olympics to begin with, but now that they have, what's done is done and a boycott would only penalize the athletes, who have done nothing wrong, by denying them a chance to compete.
But at the same time, I think it's fine for the protestors to be doing what they're doing. Trying to extinguish the Olympic flame is pretty tacky, but otherwise, if they want to bring attention to the way the Chinese government is abusing Tibet, they have every right to do that.
For the most part, I agree with Doug's first paragraph. The IOC deserves a lot of blame for what is going on now because they chose Beijing. If they would have been firm with China instead of a bunch of sellouts, then we wouldn't be in this mess.
Yes, China definitely needs to clean up its human rights policies- no doubt.
I just think that attacking torch runners is an asinine way of doing it. Many of the runners are former athletes, disabled people/athletes and ordinary Joes that want to take part in a special event in their lives- supporting goodwill and sportsmanship (and illegal doping), but they get attacked by fanatics for it.
As someone who just spent 2 months in Hong Kong, I can tell you that many Chinese people see the Olympics not only as a way to showcase China, but Chinese culture, tradition and hospitality. Ergo, it is bigger than the communist party. Many of those people aren't hardline communists; they don't support human rights violations. They are proud of their heritage, just like you are proud to be a Bulldog or an American or a Southerner. They have their blemishes just like the rest of us, but they want to show what is good about their culture.
One of the many reasons I enjoy this blog is the lack of political discussion....but since we are on the topic of China and human rights.....what does everyone think of Gov. Purdue's recent trip?

AWESOME vid PWD, thanks. I had no idea HW34 was running on Wednesday- now I'm more disappointed that me & everyone else didn't get to see the closing ceremony down by the Ferry Bldg with all the dignitaries & athletes.
The impromptu revised route went 1 blocks from my work and 2 blocks from my house- it would have been so cool to see HW34 carrying that thing, circus or no circus.
Although I'm more on the Free Tibet side of this particular argument, Herschel's words were measured, reasoned, and rational, something we almost never see anymore in this day and age. I sure wish we had more of that and less of the irrational, ignorant, and uninformed screaming and yelling that pervades current political & social discourse.
And as far as the IOC, they don't give a f**k about nothin' else but that CASH, homey. That's the only reason Beijing 08 is happening- commercial opportunity.
