Georgia Southern vs. UGA Game Time Finalized

Image: Georgiadogs.com

The GSU game will kickoff at 12:30 EST, and it will be televised via Pay Per View. No details on the PPV front yet. If I had my way, no games would kickoff before 2:00 pm. However, I understand that different segments of the fan base have different needs.

If I'm getting CMU, Alabama (night), Tennessee and Georgia Tech all at 3:30 or later, then I can roll with an earlier start for the GSU and potentially Vandy games.

BTW -- In case you missed it, GSU Coach Chris Hatcher "expects to beat Georgia." Bless his heart. Later in the season, he and Linus will wait through the night in an open field for The Great Pumpkin. Both weekends will end in disappointment for him.

Thats OK, I was planning on doing eggs for tailgating anyway!

I don't think the GSU coach actually said they were going to beat Georgia. That headline is a little out of context. He said "We're going to go up there to win." This to me, means the point of the trip is to win, not predicting an outcome. The other thing about always expecting to win is just PC. A coach can never say they expect to lose.

I will say this without profanity, or at least try: my boss has scheduled a Saturday meeting for the day of the LSU game. When I protested - and I vehemently did - he said it would be over by 3:30. And this guy is a UGA season ticket holder, so I'm not sure what the hell is going on here.

Alas, my question: Is there any hint as to what time that game would start? I obviously won't be there, but I will by God be watching it from kickoff on.

Just a guess, but CBS will probably do a double-header on 10/25 with Alabama @ Tennessee (3:30) then Georgia @ LSU (8:00).

Unknown said...

Hobnail,

CBS announced one double header which will be UGA vs. UT and UF vs. LSU.

Haven't heard anything on the other one. LSUSports.net thinks it's the final weekend. I'm skeptical of that.

Unknown said...

Josh - It won't start before 3:30 pm.

That's about all we know.

PWD,

GT @ Georgia (3:30), then..

LSU @ Arkansas or
Auburn @ Alabama?

I don't know, maybe. Georgia @ LSU is a CBS lock and I suppose they could release UA @ UT to ESPN. I'm personally hoping for nighttime in the bayou.

12:30? Damn, its gonna be miserably hot.

I know we're still awaiting details, but does PPV mean it can definitely be watched over the Internet via ESPN GamePlan?

Georgia Southern beat App State who beat Michigan who beat Florida who beat Tennessee who beat Georgia(again !). Everybody knows this is a mismatch from the word go, but at least GSU ( the one with Six Real National Championships) does not have a QB depth chart stocked with carpet baggers from anywhere but the State of Georgia. I hope they do win, the arrogance among the Dawg Nation is Suffocating. Remember Michigan !

GATA EAGLES !

Anon 9:43,

"the arrogance among the Dawg Nation is Suffocating"

Your righteous indignation is precious. Bless your little rinky dink program loving heart.

Now, go turn off that computer before it over heats. If the campus loses their only working connection to the internet, how will everyone get their email?

Dear GSU dummy,

Carpet Baggers are Yankees. I know they only have a few maps on campus at GSU, but Texas and North Carolina are in the South.

So much fail in that post, GSU guy...

-Referring to D2 or whatever the heck its called championships as ''real'' is highlarious. That's like me making fun of Darren McFadden for placing 2nd in the Heisman voting because I won the best running back award in a flag football tournament at a corporate teambuilding event.

-Calling our quarterbacks ''carpet baggers'' (a term referring to Northerners who came to the South to take advantage of the region during the Reconstruction era) when within the past month your team accepted a transfer from a QB from Ohio State. And yes, I know he was from Georgia, but seriously even you can see the irony in that... at least I hope you can.

-And since you consider people not from Georgia carpet baggers, let me remind you that your greatest player of all time, Adrian Peterson, was born in Florida.

-If it wasn't for Erk you'd have no program. You're welcome.

I'd be a bitter idiot too if I had to live in Statesboro for five years, couldn't get in to any good schools and had to settle for ''The Official Safety School of Georgia'', and my program was a shell of its former self.

Now... if Brian VanGorder was the reason you hated Georgia, I'd understand.

I went to the official safety school for UGA applicants for my first year of college, and I'll be the first to tell you that they have a worse little brother complex than GT. They've been selling shirts for the 2008 UGA-GSU game that say, "The Rivalry Returns" or "Clash of the Titans" since 2006. I'm glad I finally got out of that hell hole and into a real school.

Anon's post would have been funny if he'd just stuck to the victory chain comment.

Come on guys, easy now.

I graduate from Southern in December and the "safety school" isnt as bad as you think.

There are some morons who hate Georgia in Statesboro, but many of them are diehards Georgia folks just like me.

Season tickets for Athens have been in my family since I've been around, and going to Southern has changed absolutely nothing. I will still be in my red and black on the last Saturday in August.

And I was at the "Pigskin Preview" where Coach Hatcher made these comments, and even got my own interview with him, and Winklejohn took Hatcher's quote completely out of context to try to stir s**t up. All Coach Hatcher did was not admit that he was going to get smoked in June, what coach would do that? Coach Hatcher knows that he has 5 new offensive linemen and that is going to be their first starts that day in Athens, and knows what our defensive front is like.

p.s. with the "internet connection" comment, I laughed. But the Statesboro campus is extremely nice and has grown very considerably in the last 10-15 years, its not like some little podunk-commuter school.

Lsu and Arky always play on that Friday, so not part of CBS's plans for the last weekend.

That's right. There are now 5 Internet-capable computers at Georgia Southern. Granted, they didn't have the money for a network router so only one can be on-line at a time.

Personally, I kind of like that kids from all over the country want to go to Georgia. That whole national appeal thing is kind of nice. AA schools can't really understand that. It's like trying to explain sight to a blind person.

Nothing like beer and waffles for a tailgate. I was expecting this game to be a 1 o'clock kickoff anyway so it doesn't change my plans too much.

On the Hatcher comment: Coaches are like fathers. No father is going to come out and say his kid(s) are going to get their rear ends handed to them even though he may know this to be true.

And hey, didn't Southern just get a QB transfer from Ohio State?
Suuuuuure, he's from Georgia, but that Televen taint doesn't just wash away.

Appalachian State's (MA 1987) victory over Michigan certainly gives every 1-AA team a little more than just "hope". However, App State had a lot of starters returning whereas GSU has almost none.

GSU's national titles are quite impressive. Just the sheer number is something they should be proud of. The fact that they won them on the field and not by voting adds a lot of credence to them as well.

App State was a great team last year. And just saying you had a bunch of starters back fails to mention all your recent success with championships. If I was an App State grad I'd be a mighty proud alum.

My sister went to GSU and some of the guys I played with in high school played football for the Eagles. When people ask me if theres is any other team I root for in college football I always say Georgia Southern.

I think a lot of Georgia fans feel that way to because (a) Erk started the program, (b) we play in different divisions,(c) we know people who went there and (d) its nice to be able to root for another football team from the State of Georgia.

My response was simply to point out the many flaws in a horribly conceived post.

I hope GSU wins every game this year with the exception of the one vs UGA.

I thought "the Official Safety School of Georgia" was Auburn? Eh, Auburn, GSU, not much difference.

I think each school to some extent has something to offer that the others do not. I know that neither UGA or GSU can hold a candle to the North Georgia College & State Univ ROTC program. UGA is an athletics factory and a damn good place to get an education. GSU has a better nursing program than Emory. Im sure there are all kind of niche examples. I grew up going to UGA games, I went to Ga Southern for a time before finishing up at NGCSU. I have to admit though that of all the college football games I have seen the #1 all time game was the 1989 National Championship in Statesboro. Nothing compares to that. There is something to be said for 1 AA or FCS programs the are cheaper, alot of fu, ant you can actually easily afford the tickets and concessions without paying an arm and leg.

Our 'rinky dinky' program, and our 'rinky dinky' school, just want a little respect.

Why should you respect our football program AND our university?

It's simple.

In the course of our existence, we have done MORE with LESS.

Go back and live in 1980 morons...
