As previously reported, Georgia will be participating in the Preseason NIT this year. We open at Purdue against a low major, and then we likely get Purdue. Win both games, and we advance to Madison Square Garden. Lose either of those first two games, and we return to Athens to host a 4 team mini-tournament.
Here are the latest rumored brackets based on MemphisDog's information*.
Purdue Host Site:
-- Purdue
-- Georgia
-- Loyola (Ill.)
-- Eastern Michigan
Arizona Host Site:
-- Arizona
-- Santa Clara
-- UAB (rumored replacement for Drake)
-- Arkansas State
Oklahoma Host Site:
-- Oklahoma
-- Davidson
-- James Madison
-- New Mexico State
Boston College Host Site:
-- Boston College
-- St. Johns
-- Cornell
-- Loyola (Md.)
If we don't advance to New York for the 3rd and 4th games, we appear likely to serve as a host city for two games. The candidates to join us in Athens would be decided based on geography...not bracket. Therefore, you could easily see Davidson and/or UAB in Athens this season.
All of the big boy scheduling that is rumored (as many as 8 high major or upper mid-major opponents this year) is scary with the strong possibility of Billy Humphrey out for half the season due to suspension.
NOTE: It's easier to project the top two teams in each host city than the next two.
*MemphisDog is to basketball schedules what JimFromDuluth is to football TV projections.

Well, losing Humphrey is going to hurt a lot. However, if things remain intact and everyone comes back healthy, the depth of the team will offset the loss. As bad as this is, it will be an opportunity for Leslie, Anyaorah, and Brewer to step up. Jeremy Jacob will likely spell Woodbury a lot more due to the pressure on Woodbury. Still like this team though next year, if Felton gets the right offensive sets in place.
The 3 point line is moving back, and this team was badly in need of shooters already.
If we lose Billy, it's a brutal blow.
Logically, New Mexico State would be in the Arizona region and ARK State and/or UAB would be in the OU region.
So who knows how this shakes out in the end.
I got a feeling CDF is gonna cut Billy loose on this one.
I can see it, too. Dolla Bill really seems like a good kid, but boy does he ever have a knack for screwing up.
I am not sure Billy was going to start this year anyway.
He is a terrible ball-handler, he cannot create off the dribble and he makes terrible decisions with the ball in the open court.
He was simply one of the "more talented" on teams with very, very limited talent. Now that we are filling the coffers with big-time athletes, Billy would see his minutes diminishing as the season went along anyway.
Losing him is not really that big of a blow.
I hope that Billy will be a cautionary tale to the rest of our athletes.
If you want to go out and get "tatted up" and look like a thug gansta, guess what? The police and other authority figures are going to TREAT YOU LIKE A CRIMINAL.
Whether it is fair, racist or sad is debatable, but it does happen.
Honestly, if he had not been wearing a wife-beater to reveal all of his "Ink," do you think he would have gotten popped, or just let go?
Is that right or wrong? I do not know, but as I said, if you want to promote yourself as a thug, you will be treated as such.
I hope that others will learn from Billy's painful lessons that you should carry yourself how you want to be treated.
God, I feel bad for the kid. No student in the history of Georgia athletics had worse crapbag luck than him...
1. Has 2 beers and jaywalks. Seriously?
2. Has a SOUVENIR knife in his dorm from his basketball tour travels over the summer and gets charged with a felony. WTF?
3. Has A beer (a freaking .02 for Christ sakes) and drives home to mom. Gets pulled just 2 blocks from her house & gets threatened w/ a taser for begging the cop to just follow him home.
I'm sick of reading all that talk of him needing to go to rehab & get his "life straight."
He will get suspended from UGA and ultimately transfer somewhere else because in addition to the suspension DF will kick his ass off the team.
Just sucks, he's not a bad kid. He just happens to like to take a drink & party.....LIKE MOST COLLEGE KIDS.
Anon at 1:37: Billy's tats are all spiritual in nature. It's his particular notion of Christianity. He's not a thug.
Don't be an ass.
Additionally, no matter what, Billy hit two of the three title-clinching shots in Atlanta (his dunk on the inbounds, and the 3 with a minute left...Action Jackson's dunk is the third). And that'll always be.
looking now like Billy was quite a bit more than .02
Really? What's your source? Do you have a link? I've only seen where he blew a .02
If its just a rumor, please shut up.
Not gonna link it, but updated story on onlineathens.com
AJC reporting that Billy is kicked off team.....
