ASU Trip: Tempe expecting big UGA crowd

The Arizona Republic included a feature story on the Georgia Bulldogs' upcoming visit to the desert. The article is similar to many others we've seen basically saying that we're probably taking about 10,000 fans out there.

One interesting tidbit involves the scarcity of lower level tickets for UGA fans at ASU. Apparently, Georgia was alloted 7,300 tickets to the game. However, we only got 600 lower level seats.

As we already know, the cut-off for tickets to the game (overall) was 27,007 Hartman Fund points. However, the cut-off for those few lower level seats was $141,000. Damn.

Hold on, let me get out my check book. Anyone know a bank that's got $141,000 to loan for a fixed interest rate?

Here are a couple of tidbits of information for folks who've not been Sun Devil Stadium/Tempe.

Restrooms: Inadequate. There is only one restroom facility for the entire east side of the upper deck. Fans, especially ladies, can miss a few series of downs waiting in line. My strategy has been take the ramp to a lower deck's restrooms. It's usually faster.

Concessions: A little better than restrooms. For big games there are more satellite concession stands set up beneath the upper deck.

There are some monitors in the concourse beneath the stands so you can still catch some of the action if you're standing in the right place. Home team play-by-play is usually played on the concourse speakers.

Parking: Use caution. If you are driving to the game or renting a car use caution if parking in the downtown Tempe area. The tow companies are unscrupulous. If you are parked in the lot of a business that is closed or a non-pay vacant lot you may be towed. If you are legally parked next to a red zone your car may be pushed or dragged by the tow operator into the red zone, photographed for proof that you were illegally parked, ticketed then towed. The best bet, if you cannot park in stadium parking, is to park in a pay lot around downtown. Last season the cost started around $10for parking. The recovery fee for a towed vehicle last December was $180.

Turnabout is fair play. Next year send level 600 tickets to Tempe. Of course they probably won't travel like Georgia.

Thanks for the tips Mike.

Do you know if and when single game tickets will be available from the ASU ticket office?

I just went the ASU season ticket route this morning. I didn't wanna chance single ticket sales. The guy I spoke with said lots of GA folks were going that route--enough that ASU fans weren't able to get the seats they wanted!

Hey Guys, Hope all Georgia fans make the trip out here to Arizona for the game. Just wanted to let everyone know that while watching the game yesterday with the Georgia Alumni here in Phoenix that Gordon Biersch will be the game day headquarters for all Dawgs fans. It's going to be decked out in Black and Red and the Arizona Chapter of UGA Alumni will be there. Please spread the word and remember that Gordon Biersch only holds 500 so get there early and join us in watching the early games and celebrating The University of Georgia.
