College Football Pick 'Em for Georgia Sports Blog Readers

We are excited to announce a new feature. In conjunction with FunOfficePools.com, we will be running a college football pick 'em contest. Let's find out who is really the best prognosticator of the pigskin.

Each week we'll have about 10-15 games for you to pick - we'll be picking the winners only - no spreads - but you'll also have to assign confidence points to your picks. If you're right, you'll get the amount ofconfidence points you assigned to a game. We'll be picking games that include UGA, the other SEC teams, GT and some of the best other games of the week as well.

To participate, just join our pool. It's completely free to play, and FunOfficePools.com is spam-free as well. The pool is open now to join, and first picks are due by August 28th - so sign up now. The pool will run the whole regular season, concluding on December 6th with, among other games, the conference championship games. Let's get as many of you signed up as we can, and find out who really is the best at picking winners in football.

I will also be awarding a prize to the winner as well. More on that later this week. (Note: It won't be a trophy as nice as the one pictured...that much is for sure).

If you've already signed up, click here to go to the FunOfficePools main page and log in.

Thanks.

Alright Westerdawg, I'm in.

I'll have Georgia winning at a confidence rating of 14 every week. What can I say...I'm a homer!

I'll join.

I could've sworn 14 was least confident though. =P

Is there a limit on how many people can join? Do we need to panic, or can I procrastinate until about 5 minutes prior to the first kick off?

Where do you assign the confidence points? I guess I'm dense, but I didn't see that part.

Thanks for the invite!

I'm having trouble with the links and with accessing the site otherwise, am I the only one?

You can't win it if you ain't in it.

Confidence points are added to getting the game right as I understand it from the explanation on the site. For instance, a confidence rating of 14 for picking UGA over Ga Southern would result in 14 points (14 x 1 for the victory) vs. 1 point for a confidence rating of 1 in picking JSU over Georgia Tech (1 x 1) ...which are how I have my picks by the way.

Could you clarify Paul? So I have time to change my confidence ratings if needed?

Thanks Red - that makes sense.

And for the record, I am a moron. I didn't see until just a moment ago where the confidence points were to set for each matchup. Right in front of my face. Damn I'm getting old.

Answers to some of the questions above:

Weighting the Picks
The pool is a weighted pool, you need to apply confidence points - the higher the confidence you have in being right, the more points you should assign to the game. So 14 is more confident than 1.

Limits
There appears to be no limit. We're currently over 55 people.

Where to assign confidence points
Next to the team name (center of the row), there's a radio button for selecting the team/winner. There's a drop down menu between the team names. That's the confidence points.

Trouble accessing the site
Try again. it's working.

I'm in - Let's do it!

UPDATE -- I confirmed. There's no limit on size. Their largest pool (an American Idol pool) had over 800 members.

So we should be in great shape.

Why would you not just assign full (14) points for each game? In other words, there seems to be no penalty for getting a game wrong, so why not risk it all on every game? Or, am I missing something (likely)

Paul Westerdawg said...

yes. there's only one 14, one 13, one 12, etc.

Hey I just joined. Hopefully I'll do better than that bowl pool last year.....
