SI Digs Us

At your local newsstand tomorrow.  Jinx or not, it's pretty nice to take the cover and the top spot.

GO DAWGS!!!! Finally we get some national love. Mark May (and the scared UGA fans) are already making excuses for why we can't win it all. F 'em all!

Just wondering, when was the last time Georgia made the cover of SI? I honestly can not remember them appearing on a cover since the Herschel days.

Go Dawgs!

Why does Mark May hate Georgia so?

matt f:

April 28, 1997. Uga V was on the cover.

matt b:

May played his college ball at Pitt, and during his senior year he felt that his team should have played Georgia for the MNC instead of Notre Dame. For some reason he has held a public grudge against us since then.

Maybe this is dumb to ask, but what's with Stafford's shoes? I noticed them last year during the Auburn game - does he get special shoes, like Air Staffords?

Marcus Stroud made the cover of SI in 1996 when he chose UGA over the gators and several other schools.

Also...Mark May knocks the 1980 UGA team every chance he gets. He hates Buck Belue and scoffs anytime his name is mentioned. I'm pretty sure I've heard May say he really feels that his pitt team should have been playing notre dame, not Georgia, even though the panthers were pounded that year by Penn State by some score like 41-21. A lot of this was brought on because pitt beat UGA in the 1982 Sugar Bowl, despite UGA leading the whole game until the last second (sorry to bring that up). May also thinks that Marino wears a cape and sees through lead.

God help us all if Pitt has a decent season this year. Of course, the Wannstache is their coach so they'll find a way to screw it up.

It's a keeper.

Matthew: It's 682 miles to Miami, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

Knowshon: Hit it.

For some reason I thought May went to USC, but maybe that was based on his love for the Trojans, not factual info.

We were on the cover (sort of) in 2006 after we lost to Tennessee at home. The picture was of them blocking a punt in our endzone for a TD. The cover story was about how difficult the SEC is week-in and week-out.

Last time we were on the cover in a positive light probably was either Stroud ripping through a Gator shirt to reveal a UGA shirt for signing day or when Uga was named best mascot.

Holla.

I cannot remember, did SI pick us No. 1 in 2004? Where can I see a list of their past picks? (Historically, SI has been very inaccurate).

I, however, do not get the UGA cover. Being out here in SoCal, I will be the proud beneficiary of a regional cover, which will feature USC.

Excuse me while I go vomit in the nearest trash can.

Being critical and predicting that UGA will not go undefeated does not equate to hating a school. A lot of folks are predicting UGA will have one loss but still be playing in Miami.

I have found that most lunatic fans take any criticism of his team as hatred.

for the record, I am not a big Buck Belue fan either. Hard to believe UGA won a national title with him as QB even with Herschel!

of course UGA came close to winning the title with John Lastinger as well.

My fellow dawgaticts,

It appeares Jason needs the help of those who bleed red and black. I here by put forth a mention of some fundraising effort whose sole function is aimed at supplying our dear friend Jason one grandious copy of the Sports Illustrated/GA cover for the week of Aug 4, 2008

I hence forth declare my noble intentions with only the signature of anonymous. Please let the donations begin!

i just went on SI's site. They make no mention of the regional covers. In fact the only cover they are showing is UF cover. When checking out UGA in search function reveals nothing about UGA being on the cover.

I live in arkansas and can get nothing here about UGA. So I tried on line and nothing.

I've mentioned this to PWD before but...

I still think a great cover would be of Moreno and Stafford in their black uniforms and sunglasses, holding a football like a gun ("Men In Black" style).

The caption would be:

"DAWGS IN BLACK: DEFENDING SANFORD'S MOTHER TURF 24/7"

(24/7...get it?)

Anyway...I know it sounds cheesy but I'd rather put it out there and people hate it than never mention it all.

Is it just me or do the pants look white in this photo?

Where is the MAG! I have looked at Barnes and Noble, Publix, etc. It is not out yet. Does anybody have an idea?

The SI cover jinx has pretty well ceased to be, since they went with regional covers.
