Larry Munson is retiring effective immediately. WSB announced it on the air a bit earlier. Georgiadogs.com has the official announcement. More to follow shortly.

Sad, but I can't say I didn't see it coming. =(

Damn, Just Damn. I was wanting to hear, "Get the picture; Dawgs in those black jerseys, red helmets and silver britches. From hear on out we win for Munson and with authority!

I'd have loved to have him for just one more game. Hopefully this inspires the guys even more...

I just heard it on Buck and Kincaid. It had to happen at some point.

Hopefully we can do something for him.

This season should be for him.

I saw it coming as well. The 2nd half of the CMU game in particular was brutal...I felt really sorry for him as he sounded like he was in pain. But, I'll remember all the good times and all those classic calls. Munson was simply the best and nobody will ever be able to replace him. I'm sure they'll do a nice tribute to him pregame this Saturday.

I had hoped maybe he could make it to the end of the season, but I knew this was it. He just didn't seem to find the same enjoyment in it that he did in years past. Well, maybe "enjoyed" isn't exactly the right word.

Hopefully he'll get every tribute he deserves, starting Saturday and finishing up in Miami. I hope he can be at the stadium sometime this year so folks can show their appreciation.

DawgsOnline has said it best:

"Wearing black to Saturday’s game just became a million times more poignant. "

Exactly.

BRING YOUR FAVORITE LARRY MUNSON QUOTE TO THE ESPN GAMEDAY SHOW.

Put it on a sign, front and back if you have a couple.

Fill their backdrop with Munsonisms.

It would be heckuva tribute.

Yep. While "Corso is a Penis" is endlessly funny, "Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott! Lindsay Scott!" would be much better.

It would be awesome if the North Stands broke out into LARRY and the South Stands responded with MUNSON. Maybe just before the Battle Hymn. There won't be a dry eye Between the Hedges.

I knew this was coming but it's not easy. I grew up in an area of Georgia where we didn't get the game on TV till I was a teenager. We listened to Larry every Saturday during the season.

Larry, we all love ya. Take care and get your health better. There are lots of fish out there for the catchin'.

I'd love to see the students who write something like "Georgia Bulldogs" on their chest instead write "Larry Munson". All I've ever known on the radio is Larry.

All the more reason for the team to crush the Bammers.

GATA Larry!

I was really hoping he could make it through to the end of the season, but I can't say I'm shocked...

I really hope he can make it up to Athens for a game later this season and receive the tribute he deserves.

Does anyone else feel the weight of history/destiny of this season?

Preseason Number 1

Travelling across the country first time in a my lifetime

Heisman Trophy candidates.

Munson's Retirement

This season more depth than most decades.

This is unbelieveable, total shock. We are really going to miss Larry.

I hope the players dedicate the rest of the season to Larry and maybe ESPN will do a special clip on Larry.

I agree with the poster at 7:49: North Stands Larry, South Stands Munson.

Will see everyone at the Blackout.

Now those black jerseys are going to have more value then ever! Win this one for Larry!

We'll miss you Mr. Munson!

I'm speechless, I am without speech. I knew this time was coming. I'll be wearing my black jersey at home if nothing else.

He lives in Athens.

I'm a Bama fan and am looking forward to the game this weekend. But Larry Munson will be missed by everyone in the SEC. He is simply one of the greatest of all time.
