If you watched Thursday's Vandy - South Carolina game, you remember that Carolina's All-SEC wide receiver Kenny McKinley was injured early and didn't play most of the game. It turns out it was a hamstring strain. Spurrier says they will wait and see if McKinley can go Saturday, but The State thinks it's doubtful. McKinley is the best Cock receiver (but Jared Cook looked good Thursday, too). McKinley is a game-changer, capable of scoring at any time. If he can't play, that takes some pressure off our secondary which has looked rickety so far. Hamstring injuries usually take some time to heal up. (Image: scout.com)
As to who the quarterback will be, Chris Smelley or Tommy Beecher, Shiny Pants ain't sayin' nothin'. They will compete for the job during practice this week. Knowing Spurrier and his loyalty to his starting quarterbacks, they will both likely play. Frankly, I hope to see Beecher. Smelley has far more impressive numbers.
So, basically, Spurrier revealed absolutely nothing during his Sunday press conference. I assume every player competes for their job in every practice and I bet we never hear a definitive answer on McKinley. Why even have the press conference?

"Knowing Spurrier and his loyalty to his starting quarterbacks, they will both likely play."
This sentence has such a beautiful irony to it.
