Is LSU Fan Getting Soft?

I'm sure experiences varied, but I was shocked at the overwhelming hospitality of the LSU fans, both before and after the game.  I know they are generally a good bunch even if you have to put up with an initial dose of hostility.  In 2003, though, they were vicious.  This year, I had to practically beg LSU fan to even blurt out a "Tiger Bait" in my general direction, despite my red pants.  During the game, the LSU fans were handing me drinks instead of pouring them on my head.  Have those championships made them soft?
From talking with other Georgia fans, my experience was a common one.  What were your impressions of the Tiger faithful?

They were some of the nicest I've encountered in the SEC! I was scared after reading everything on here leading up to the game but after the win so many LSU fans were congratulating us on the win. They were very hospitable, and I'm looking forward to meeting them between the hedges next season

My friends and I found the LSU fans quite hospitable. In fact, one group invited us to join them at their tail gate since we were just standing under a tree with a cooler of beer. They had boiled peanuts, burgers, hot dogs, and even deer jerkey.
I'd say on the whole, we were only called tiger bait like 10 times, one of which was from a kid who was no older than 4, and that was adorable.
After the game, fans were more angry with their own team and even wished us a pleasant stay in Baton Rouge. With exception of the one guy who said we looked like bloody tampons (that's a new one for me), everyone was nice.

I was all worried for nothing. We're worse than they are.

Hmmmm, I think the Dawg fan who was sitting right next to the tunnel and caught Knowshon Moreno's glove when he threw it into the crowd would beg to differ....story says that an LSU fan sitting next to him poured his whole drink all over the poor guy....guess that's better than rolling down a hill in a portapotty though...

If treating other human beings, regardless of their school preference, with respect and dignity is being "soft", then that's the way I'd describe ALL of LSU fans I encountered over the weekend...and we interacted with plenty of them before and after the game.

Treat others the way you expect to be treated. If you're looking for trouble anywhere, you can usually find it. Those who have complaints probably got what was coming to them.

Like Anon 12:19 mentioned, I was a little concerned about the LSU crowd. I could really care less about heckling, but I was worried about anything more physical (spitting, port-a-potty pushing, drink pouring).

Instead I left Baton Rouge overwhelmed by the hospitality. While standing around the stadium, an LSU fan approached me asked if I was tailgating anywhere. He then insisted that I follow him to his tailgate. I was treated to all the beer, jambalaya, and boudin I could stomach.

As far as the atmosphere as a whole, the score and afternoon kick-off probably quelled a lot of the rambunctiousness.

However, after talking to a few LSU fans during day, I'm already worried for the everyone's safety at the Bama/LSU game. I hope the Baton Rouge PD are well stocked with tear gas.

I didn't make it this year, but most of the LSU fans I interacted with in Baton Rouge in 2003 were quite hospitable. Like all SEC schools, I'm sure LSU has a small percentage of really nasty fans who give the rest a bad name.

I had more than a few drinks poured on me. The first one for no reason, the next few...I might have had something to do with.

Ass whoopin!

I went in '98 and and 2003. I attribute all the animosity to the cult of personality that is Saban.

In '98, I had a fantastic time and tailgated with some of the friendliest people in the world.

2003 was rough. I have been to every SEC venue except Arkansas, and '03 Baton Rouge was the only time I felt like I would have to physically defend myself.

Glad to hear that they are back to being mediocre at football and hospitable as heck on gameday.

I think Hurricane Katrina softened them up

By far, the nicest fan base I have ever been around. I was shocked.

I've never heard anything but positive comments about LSU fans. That jackass flipping off the camera during the game aside, they're known for being friendly.

i was a little disapointed in there women but yeah, amazing trip.

Barley was yelled at and even had LSU fans go way outta there way to get me free tickets to the game. During the game, i had two lsu fans sitting behind me who just kept talking about how good AJ Green is and how much they hate Andrew "Noodle Arm" Hatch. They joked with me the entire game, never really mad at the beat down.

Had a great time!!!!

Is the LSU fan getting soft? My guess is not even close, probably just storing up for a much more hated rival that is visiting Baton Rouge in 2 weeks.

We were cussed out a couple times and heard " Tigah Bait!" way more than i wanted to but overall i was really surprised. They weren't as bad as i had heard. From what I heard, I expected to be fighting for my life the entire trip.

I could not believe how cordial everybody was this weekend. Sure, I heard a lot of "Tiger Baits", but the crowd was overwhelmingly hospitable, even friendly at points. It was a pleasant change from typical SEC fans.

I have to agree w/ almost everyone here- the LSU fans are the most hospitable I've encountered. I was given more free food and drink than I could handle! Who cares I was called Tiger Bait a few times....most of them laughed after doing it.

As another poster commented, we're actually worse....but I hope all the LSU fans who make the trip are treated as nicely as I was.

its good to know that maybe they are turning soft but i doubt us bama fans will be treated to the same hospitality. i read somewhere a warning to all alabama fans not to come to baton rouge on the 8th because alabama fans will die.

We had a great trip as well and tailgated with a couple families of LSU fans all morning. We had a couple meatheads sitting in front of us in the UGA section but the couple of times they tried to start fights no one took the bate. Ranks up there with the best road trip in the SEC!

As we walked to the game, one of my buddies had a girl get in his face with a "milk bone" chant, why I can't figure. Then as we passed on through she kicked him in the ass. Didn't see it but we all had a great laugh.

Saw a GA fan get a drink thrown on him inside the stadium but the LSU fan walked away.

it was night and day difference between 03 and this year. I think maybe cause Gameday was there in 03 that the fans were extra jacked up or that more cajun aholes were there tailgating. I got TB'd only 3 times on the way into the stadium. Maybe cause of the FL game it took some of the fire out of the fans.....its hard to talk trash when you got rolled a couple weeks before. I bet the TN fans who came to Sanford thought the Dawg fans were more welcoming since we had been humbled 2 weeks earlier from Bama.

Death Valley seemed a much sadder place - it was nowhere near as intimidating as it did in 2003. The fans got loud a few times but that int return right off the bat just sealed the deal for UGA - they were on their heels all game.

Having never been to Baton Rouge, I was a little concerned about the reception but wore my red pants with the bulldogs all over them, big rodeo belt buckle with a "G", etc. I heard a few distant calls of "tiger bait" (big deal) but I can't say they were even directed at me and they sounded more humorous than menacing. Everyone I met seemed nice.

Now about that stadium...what a mess it is. Sanford Stadium and the whole game experience is so much more impressive than anything I saw in Baton Rouge. Maybe that's why the LSU fans seem humble.

One of the few things I remember from the Sugar Bowl last year was an LSU fan sticking up for Georgia and throwing his drink at an idiotic South Carolina fan (I have no idea why the Gamecock was there...nowhere else to go bowling I guess). He kept going on about how South Carolina had won the Sugar Bowl because they beat Georgia.

Never had the pleasure of going to a game in Baton Rouge, but if that fan was any indication, I would probably enjoy it.
