An Exhibition Win and a Futbol Blowout

The basketball team won their exhibition game last night against Albany State, 93-56.  Jeremy Price led the way with 19 points and 7 boards.  Troy Brewer and freshman Drazen Zlovaric, who is badly in need of a nickname (the Slashin' Serb?), poured in 15 each.

It's just an exhibition game against an overmatched opponent, but there was a least one encouraging stat: the Dawgs shot over 50% from the field and from behind the arc.  If you take out Albert Jackson's 1 of 8 night, the Dawgs shot 58% from the field.  Consistent outside shooting will help create needed space for Price and Jackson down low.  Again, it was just Albany State, but there are a few encouraging signs from Stegeman.

We just need to get healthy.  Freshman superrecruit Trey Tompkins might miss a large part of the season with a ankle issue.  It looked like the situation would get worse when Albert Jackson was helped off the court last night after crashing to the floor and grabbing his leg.  This was especially concerning because of the glowing offseason practice reports that promised a big season for the big man from Kentucky.  Thankfully, Jackson just has a mean sprained ankle and shouldn't miss more that a couple of weeks.

In other news, the soccer team got a huge upset win last night at the SEC Championship semifinals in Orange Beach, Alabama.  The girls beat Florida 3-0 and advanced to the finals against Tennessee.  It was only the second win over the Gators in program history and the first in SEC tournament play.  Junior Carrie Patterson became Georgia's all-time leading goal scorer after being credited with a Florida own goal early in the first half.  I don't think they have time outs in futbol, but if they did coach Patrick Baker should have used them all up in the waning seconds to let Patterson dance around on the field.  The finals will be televised Sunday at 3:30 Eastern on Fox Sports Net South.

At least we beat Florida at something. Maybe the Yoculan and Baker can give the pre-game pep-talk to our football team.

Just exhibition - but man Drazen's got a nice shot from long range and Travis Leslie looks like a Mike Mercer clone...hopefully without the baggage.

I realize that our D is a year away and we've had some injuries, but I think the D staff has to have a shake up. Maybe a new DE coach and a new linebackers coach. Something....

Willie is just not getting it done. Today,I felt like the WVU game a few years back. Very frustrating. More field goals instead of tds and we're fine.

He can't defend that type offense and I don't know if he ever will.

I pray that I am wrong.
