Welcome to Mo's (Image: DawgPost.com)
I'm going to do a write-up on all three phases of the game, and I might as well start with the positive -- the offense.
Overall, it looked like the offense we dreamed of before the season. Yes, there were two fumbles; although, one was very questionable officiating. Yes, Bobo's decision to pass on 2nd and Goal from the 3 on the last drive was mind boggling .. and Stafford's inability to burn that pass into the UK student section instead of giving up a sack was maddening. But otherwise, it was the sort of offense we all hoped to see.
Moreno went for 123 yards and three TDs. Stafford threw for 376 yards, three TDs and no turnovers, and Massquoi had a career day. When you get six TDs from your primetime players and 520 yards of total offense, you're going to win a ton of football games.
One of the subtle bright spots in the game was the settling down of Stafford mid-game. During a 3 minute stretch to open the second quarter, he went 0-5 and looked off target and out of sync despite a hot 4-5 opening to the game. During his first year and a half in Athens, that sort of stretch could've derailed his day. Not this time. He settled back down to finish 13-17 for the rest of the afternoon.
Another hidden positive involved offensive penalties. The offense only snagged two flags on the day. Unfortunately, both were ill timed first down penalties that put the team in drive killing holes. The late hit by our offensive lineman was particularly dumb. However, the overall number of flags did decline this week. Particularly on offense.
The biggest go forward concern for the offense is the injury to offensive tackle Justin Anderson. He looks to be out for Auburn, and it's very much up in the air regarding the Tech game.
I'll get to the defense and the special teams soon enough. But the punch line is this...if we see this offense against Auburn and Georgia Tech, we should win. Even knowing how bad the Defense and kicking game is, we should still win. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets lack the offensive firepower to put up the 40+ points it will take to stop the offense when its clicking.

Ha. No comments on the offense, yet a bunch on the defense. I've heard many people bust Bobo on playcalling, yet UGA's offense has not been the problem this year, except for a few times.
I also find it interesting that some people defend CWM by claiming that injuries have been the problem. Ok. Yes, players like Owens are hard to replace, but one player does not make or break an entire team. Excuses.
Kudos to the offense. Our line has been in shambles, but have looked really good at times, despite the numerous injuries. Why can't the defense do the same? Maybe because when you stop relying on talent alone, you need good coaching to compensate, and UGA does not have it on the defensive side of the ball...
I love the people who don't want to fire CWM. Why not? What's your suggestion? Transplant another DC's brain into his head so that he becomes better? Crazy.
Maybe Searles can coach the D too!
I feel really bad for Mo Mass. He had an amazing day, is one of the top 3 WRs in the SEC (AJ Green is 1st), but those 2 fumbles were awful for his future I fear. I wish the guy the best. I hope he gets drafted (don't know why he wouldn't, except UGA WRs often get overlooked), and that people see those fumbles for what they were: a guy trying to will his team to victory, a little too hard.
Overall, great job by Stafford. Was it a career passing day for him? Had he broken 300 yet?
It was a career day for him.
You sure are confident in our ability to hold AU and GT down when we just gave up 38 points to a team with a true Frosh qb that we made look like Donovan McNabb.
Defending Stafford on the sack at the end of the game--he was about ton throw the ball and pulled it down because the LB turned his head an cut it off. He would have thrown it away but literally got hit as he was trying to re-gather to throw it away.
It was actually a very good play to avoid a potential interception.
