Evans working with Richt to keep Searels

Anthony Dasher reports that Damon Evans is working with Richt to develop a package that will keep Searels in Athens. No details, but that's good enough news for tonight.

Please Lord do NOT let Searles leave! Losing Searels would be a determental loss to the team.

This is good to hear. Searels will stay.

Searals has learned quickly how to leverage for a higher salary. Well done for a boy from northwest GA.

Ski: I seriously doubt this is about leverage for a higher salary. He's not a douchebag. This is nothing more than his Alma Mater calling him for an interview and I'm sure he's interested in an advancing opportunity. I just hope he chooses to stay at UGA.

But to insinuate that this is about leverage is not only stupid but insulting. Searles is a good man, don't damage his name by your ignorance.

I'm sure he's not broken hearted that he's going to get paid a little bit more

So, wanting a higher salary makes someone a douchebag?

The Alma Mater has to be a strong call. I implore Evans to pay the man, within a reasonable measure, whatever it takes to keep him on the sidelines of the Red & Black. What he did with the offensive line the last two years was nothing short of a miracle.

There is nothing wrong with wanting more money if one is in demand.

You inferred that I was making that a negative. I insinuated no such thing. It is how the game is played. You are naive think otherwise or else they do not give raises like that for your work.

When I was offered a job with another organization at a higher salary, I went to my boss to see if the current organization would match it.

Nothing wrong with it.

Ski, you insinuated that he was using the interview to do so - and you don't know that. That's ignorant and insulting.

Anon 2:51, how is that insulting? It's frowned upon in jobs where workers aren't in as high demand but in high demand professions, it's fairly common to use interviews to prod your current company into increasing compensation. There's nothing about that practice to be ashamed of. The sad fact of the matter is that sometimes employers don't take you seriously until you consider other options.

In the words of our great American philosopher, Latrell Sprewell, Coach Searels "got a family to feed."

And a Bentley to pay for.

even if AU didn't call, the man deserves a raise

The anon who doesn't appreciate using leverage to get a higher salary probably has no marketable skills and/or works for the government.

1) How about posting a screen name? It makes it easier.
2) Are you Searals' agent? Do you KNOW that he is not using the AU interest to get more pay? I doubt you do.
3) I see nothing wrong with this. I guess french fry cooks at a fast food place do not know this is one way to get a raise.

"Louisiana Tech: Derek Dooley, son of the legendary head coach, Vince Dooley, to not be in line for the Georgia job if and when Mark Richt continues to fail at getting the program over the hump."

Anybody else see this over at College Football News? What the hell has crawled up this guy's pooper? It's in their Holiday wishes section.

/sarcasm on

I'm curious, but where are the spelling Nazis wrt coaches' names?

We all know how to spell G-A-R-N-E-R now. Why is the subject of this post so less worthy? I count at least 3 different spellings and one post that spells it two different ways within two words of each occurrence.

And yet, no "real fan" has come forward with the correction! For SHAME!

/sarcasm off

Can't we all just get along?

We'd better hurry up and sign a deal with Searels before the Yankees do...
