Last Night's Basketball Game

The Dawgs lost to Western Kentucky last night 67-63. However, it's not as bad as it sounds. WKU did beat Louisville a few days ago on the road after some tough upsets earlier in the season when they were playing with a banged up roster.

The team as a whole continues to shoot incredibly poorly from the floor, and Jeremy Price continues to struggle to produce any offense whatsoever. I'm assuming that as he grows used to his new body (he dropped 20+ pounds this off season) he'll perform at a higher level.

As I understand it, Felton didn't give Trey Thompkins more minutes because he's not as familiar with the 1-3-1 defense due to all the practice time he missed with injuries.

This isn't a "bad loss" for the Dawgs; however, it does put more pressure on the team for the Illinois game Saturday (ESPNU) and the Virginia Tech game Tuesday (FSNS) at home. Felton absolutely must win one of those two games to keep the wolves at bay and to keep fans interested. TV games are advertisements for his product, and we've got to start winning TV games to put butts in seats and recruits on the commit list.

Other than the fantastically bad shooting (even by Feltonian standards), I was relatively pleased. Outstanding rebounding kept us in the game and I think that bodes well for conference play. I'd also like to know what Albert Jackson is eating and what his weight room routine is, because the kid now looks like an NBA center from the ankles to the wrists. Unfortunately his hands and feet still look like they belong to a retarded llama.

This would have been a great win last night. WKU is a tournament team who is fresh off a huge win over #3 Louisville. It seems like this team is close to competing but always seems to have stretches of bad play that keep us from getting to the level we would like ( see any relationship here?....maybe football?). We have tremendous size inside but it always seems like our big men never truly can utilize their size and talent. Hopefully more practice/games will greatly improve that.

While I would've preferred a a win obviously, the Dawgs last night did look much more focused and confident than they did at any point during the regular season last year. I think Dustin Ware could wind up huge for us this year as his ball distribution as he drove to the basket looked pretty impressive.

The fact that all have to look forward to this winter is THIS basketball team makes me even more depressed about our football season. Does anyone actually think the UGA program can be decent? Please tell me why, especially considering they have never really been good ever, and I don't count the years in that were lucky enough to have a future NBA HOF.

Dustin and Zac's choice of threes toward the end of the game only down three were horrible. The team played well, however, the issue for the next couple of years and last night was the lack of a pure shooter. If Wood is not hitting his shot (like the second half) then we are in trouble. Any idea on why Drazan did not play? My guess was the defensive matchup with A.J. from WKU would have been a huge liability for us. We also need Trey in shape. He was beaten time and time again downcourt. Corey's free throw shooting also killed us. However, all that aside, the team is surprising me.

Can someone please call Anthony Grant before the season is (officially) over or before someone else does?

Paul- maybe you can verify but of the top 150 HS players in the nation, 15 are from the state of GA. Of those 15, I hear only two are even considering GA and we probably get neither. This is not the first year of this instance either.
We hit on a few high level players (somehow) and those ultimately get kicked off the team. Thisteam is headed nowhere in my opinion. Thompkins is a stellar player but will not be able to shoulder the load himself. Anyone who can will bolt for the NBA before ultimately being kicked off the team.
I wish a change were in the making but honestly as long as Stegeman is still in existence this program will be weighted down and unable to pull in better players. Adding the new concessions stand, paper towel dispensers, knobs on the faucets in the bathrooms, and whatever else they're doing doesn't change much. I'm reminded of the "lipstick on a pig" comment from the recent political campaign. Hoping for a win over Va Tech or Illinois is admirable for the true fans but overall a feckless endeavor. Winning a token game here or there will not amount to much. We need to spend the money on many aspects of this program and ultimately bring in the caiber of coach who can invent a program here worth selling.
I hate to be so negative but after losing to the Virgins last weekend things just look bleak ini the immediate future... until GA tennis hits the courts and starts taking names.

Interesting that Felton's replacement has ascended the WKU program to a place where they are favored against a Felton-coached UGA squad, something that would not have been possible under Felton in the first place.
