I know this post has little to do with the topic at hand other than it deals with strategy.
I was reading somewhere about the differences in offenses of UA, UF, and OU. Maybe I heard it from Herbie. Anyway, the point was made that UA and UF imposed their will on others while OU utilized matchups AFTER the defenses lined up to win.
I have been seeing the offense line up with the defense line up across from them only to have all the offensive players look to the sideline to get the COACHES to alter the play or tell them the play anyway.
I am not sure if I have a valid argument to argue against such practices but it seems either unfair or evil to a certain extent. I am not saying that altering plays is wrong because QB and Linemen make those adjustments. The issue I have is that it is the coaches who from the benefit of being above the play in the press box or looking from the sideline alter the play. The unfair advantage at least in my mind is that the coaches know the offense better and by means of a different perspective can pick holes in the defense something a young QB or any other QB can do.
I think this takes away from the game. It takes it away something from the players.
I would just like to know what others think about this subject.
Interesting point there, but I think that defenses alter packages also and regulating it would be damn near impossible aside of bringing all the coaches onto the field.
We are actually one of the last colleges in the country that require our QBs to make checks at the line. USC does it, too.
I think the trend to look to the sidelines is ruining college football and a bad thing, but in the end, it will help us. Sanchez and Matthew are so far ahead of the curve for the NFL because of this. And where are the top two QBs in the country committed this year? UGA & USC. Kids will start to figure it out because they're looking for a ticket to Sunday. So, I hope we never do it.
I think Urban Meyer bought those timeouts off of craiglist already, yeah in an awful attempt to "payback" our guys for dancing he used them in the final minute of this years game. Didn't know Urban checked out craigslist for sweet deals.
