Coming and Goings at UF?

The big SEC news of the day is Tim Tebow's expected and confirmed return to the Gators for the '09 season. No shocker there.

The Palm Beach Post reports that Percy Harvin is leaning towards returning as well, but I'll believe that when I see it. And the Orlando Sentinel reports that Brandon Spikes is leaning towards staying as of 4:15 today. Although, oddly enough Spikes didn't attend the Gators national title celebration today in Gainesville. I still expect both to bolt once the giddy glow of the title wears off a little. If not the Gators will return 11 on defense and 8 on offense. They have until Sunday to announce.

Their personnel is formidable, but there could be more coaching changes. Their offensive line coach and new offensive coordinator Steve Addazio is considered a finalist for the Boston College head coaching job (Source: Boston Globe). Losing Dan Mullen (QB Coach / OC) doesn't really matter for '09 because Tebow is on auto-pilot at this point. But losing your top two internal offensive minds could hurt play calling a bit.

there's an old saying that the higher you go the lower you fall. Eventually, everyone reverts to the mean.

FL Football reminds me of a dot-com stock circa 1999. Trust me, this too shall pass. Hopefully sooner than later.

There is no where for this program to go but down.

I thought all underclassmen had to announce by the 15th? And I don't see why on earth Harvin or Spikes stay. Harvin could be another Steve Smith type player and Spikes is a terror in the middle.

Harvin is just one twisted ankle away from not playing football anywhere. He'd better get his cash while he can.

As long as Meyer is at UF they will dominate the SEC East. He is the best coach in that division and it's not even close.

I hope the UF program is like Enron or Tyco.

Glad Tebow's staying. He may beat us next year, but I want our boys to get another shot.

FWIW....if Boston College hires Addazio, aren't they being a bit hypocritical, hiring someone who already has a job.

In the coaching field, being a pro head coach has always been considered a step up from being a college guy, so when BC plays the promotion card, they will essentially be hiring a guy who did the same thing they hired Jagodzinski for.

well guys...it's the Gator's world right now and the rest of us are just along for the ride.Urban has been a winner everywhere he's been and I don't see it changing anytime soon.He recruits like his life is on the line.I remember when Harvin was coming out of high school...the whole planet wanted him but it was Urban who got him.

Even the relentless Nick Saban,Inc will have a hard time beating Florida. It may be tough sledding for all the SEC for a few years...

later,old dawg

I am anonymous 5:19, and I have no idea why my post was removed.

It is absolutely true that starting with Herschel, UGA players have had a propensity to leave school early and take the money.

CMR's 1st year saw the last of that with Charles Grant, who did not play at all that season until the Auburn game, in which he had 5 sacks, when he was auditioning for the NFL.

This year, for the first time since the Donnan era, it seemed that many players in the program were much more enamored with their draft prospects than trying to win a championship.

I admire that the UF players seem to be putting their selfish desires on hold for the good of the program. Now, in Tebow's case, he is simply the Christian Laettner of today. He is not good enough to play in the NFL, and everyone knows that college is where his legend will remain.

But, if somehow they get Harvin and Spikes to stay, you just have to chalk it up to them creating a better winning chemistry, a formula for having guys love their university and team above themselves.

We clearly lost that this year and I hope that CMR is somehow able to get it back.

It's always funny that the guy whose post gets deleted never has any idea why that might have happened.

It was probably deleted because your comment at 8:10 this morning was reasonable.

Your comment at 5:19 wasn't.

I clearly wasn't the only one who felt that way.

Steeler,

Me too.

Hey, I'm a Gator, and I want Harvin to enter the draft. It would be a shame if he returns and gets injured next season.

Tebow and Spikes, however, are welcomed back with open arms.
