This is relevant to Georgia as the Dawgs will face Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. It's also relevant in that we may be in competition with Alabama, Auburn and possibly Georgia Tech to hire a new basketball coach following the season.
Tech's Paul Hewitt looked to be on solid footing following the commitment of high profile basketball recruit Derrick Favors. However, the Yellow Jackets are now 9-10 overall and 0-6 in the ACC. With an 0-8 ACC start looming, how much longer can he survive?
Anyway....If you see confirmation of Gottfried's termination, feel free to link it in the comments section.
UPDATE -- Confirmed by Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News. Gottfried has been fired.

Gottfried Fired
Well, Gottfried certainly had a better record than Felton, so Damon should get the pink slip delivered that much faster.
Also on ESPN...

Lane Kiffin will probably hire him so he can boast that he scored AL's biggest recruiter over the last 11 years.
new reports say he actually resigned...doubtful at best
Correction: Mark Gottfried. Mike Gottfried is the ESPN announcer.
@ Ubiquitous: Kiffin will probably pay him $700k a year to be "Endzone Jumpball Coordinator".
Step up to the plate Damon and fire felton already!
+1 to Macon!
Dawgs have Bama right where they want them...
...Oh, forget it.
Apparently Bama, a football school, cares about having a winning basketball program. Georgia, however, has competing priorities, priorities that have nothing to do with athletics or academics.
Please add Tubby Smith and Sam Mitchell to the list of "qualified candidates". Both would provide the necessary political cover required to abandon Felton.
They are so lucky!
Look guys Felton is done. We know it. The players know it. Damon knows it. Felton probably even knows it.
The real question is does ending your association mid-season allow you to get a jump on the coaching search in a meaningful way.
I do not know the answer to that. One school of thought is that it allows you to evaluate coaching talent and availability over the course of the rest of the season. However, it could also hurt the search because it becomes the constant focus of the media around your program.
I would be interested in seeing how Damon handles the next few weeks.
Also let's not discount that we could be searching for two basketball coaches at the end of the year. The women's team is not exactly burning it up either.
Lebo has improved his team this year.
He is not getting fired...
(but with Auburn you never know).
Don't assume coaches are (or haven't already been) evaluated to take Felton's place.
I wouldn't sweat the fact that he's not going to be here next year. I would kinda sweat when we can "officially" look for a new coach.
