Brewer to leave UGA Basketball Team

The AJC reports that Troy Brewer will join Zac Swansey in asking for his release from Georgia. I'm not really sure where he'll land given the lack of demand for shooting guards that hit for 30% from the field over a two year period.

As I said earlier today, this was bound to happen. I doubt it's over with yet.

Just two quick thoughts here. First, Swansey....who I don't begrudge for wanting to leave...has bizarre logic for wanting to transfer. He's unhappy with how his demotion was communicated to him. So....he's going to transfer. Huh? Is that to get away from a coaching staff that is already fired? Wouldn't he want to stick around now that the troublesome coaching staff who didn't communicate well is gone? Pffft. Kids.

Secondly, I feel for Brewer. It's not his fault that Felton offered him a spot in Athens. He never should've been given a scholarship to start with. You don't travel 500 miles to offer a kid that no peer school is offering when your state is producing 6 to 8 high major recruits per year at the same position. When he signed, I said this:
The difference between being a "diamond in the rough" and "just being rough" is where coaches make their money. And where bloggers spend their time second guessing.

All I know is that it's very difficult to improve your program by consistently out recruiting programs that your fans can't find on a map. I had hoped we were past that phase of recruiting.
If we just make logical decisions going forward in regards to recruiting, we're going to improve the talent base of the team.

Best of luck to Brewer. We wouldn't have beaten Delaware State or Augusta St. last year without his points. Seriously.

Seems like kids are fleeing UGA, by there own actions of course. But still it is a little disappointing to have kids become part of our family and leave before their eligibility is up or like Moody before they could get on campus. I wish them all the best in their next steps of their academic and athletic lives, as long as they aren't playing us.

We are better off with those two off the team, neither can play at this level. The new coach needs some ships to work with. With the roster we will have next year, its going to be a rough year of basketball again.

Swansey- He saw the writing on the wall with Ware. Hate to see him go, he hit some big shots for us but all around he didn't improve when given the chance.

Brewer-No surprise.

Neither of this guys belong on a D1 roster. It is fortunate the new coach will not have to deal with these 2.

Nothing against them personally, and I (we) will always be grateful for Swansey's play in the tourney last year, But the new coach is going to have to clean a little house. We will be lucky to have 5 guys on scolarship when the new coach arrives on campus.

Does anybody know where we can get a couple of twins to transfer from, especially one that can break you down with the dribble and can hit open threes?

Neither of those guys are D1 players. Swansey has had to go against Ware in practice all season. He knows ultimately he will only be a back up if he stays.

This is outstanding news! Instead of the new coach having to work off the dead weight, so to speak, over several years; instead he suddenly has two extra scholly's to use at his disposal. Thanks Zac and Brewer for sacrificing your scholly so that UGA basketball can get back on track that much quicker.

Well here we are. Same place we were 6 years ago when Felton was hired to "turn the program around".

Granted, Felton started in a deep hole but proved, by the abovementioned recruiting errors and coaching, that he wasn't the right choice.

Now the new coach will have to pick up the pieces of a program left in disarray.

Starting from scratch again.

Sounds familiar doesn't it.

Don't F up this hire Damon.

These guys are just kids and their logic proves it. Swansey knows why he was demoted. If not just watch game film. The poor kid just can't shoot. Couldn't in high school and in two years at Ga he has regressed. Hit a few shots but they were just luck. Look at his percentages. Just awful. I will give them credit for seeing the writing on the wall and helping the program by leaving. Swansey might check out West Ga or North Ga.

I'm enjoying the random UF douchebag who keeps posting the Swansey quote.
