Diamond Dawgs Face LSU Today

LSU eliminated South Carolina last night in game 10 of the SEC Baseball Tournament.  Georgia and the Tigers will play at 2:30 PM EST this afternoon.  If we lose, the rematch is slated for 9:30.  The Dawgs send Alex McRee to the bump in the early game, although Perno hasn't sounded confident in McRee for a couple of weeks.  Jeff Walters will go in game two, if necessary, instead of Cecil Tanner who's been exiled to the pen.   LSU has struggled against lefties, but McRee walks so many guys, they may only need a few clutch hits to run him.
The good news is that our pen should be rested and ready while LSU's staff is low on bullets.  Dean Weaver pitched two innings Thursday, but should be OK to go.  Everyone else has at least two days rest.  LSU threw their ace, Louis Coleman, last night and their other ace, Anthony Ranaudo, Thursday.  We want nothing to do with either of those guys and we shouldn't see them.  Their freshman closer, Matty Ott, has pitched at least an inning both Thursday and Friday.
The bad news is that LSU still has a bunch of big, brawny bats no matter what the dominant hand of the pitcher and Georgia hasn't been particularly reliable in these situations.  Cough ... cough ... Fresno.   Every time I think we're in control, a downward spiral results.
The first game will be on Fox Sports and the second game looks like it will be available only over the internet.  We only need one.  Go Dawgs.

remember that one time when alex Mcree didn't give up 7 innings in the 1st?

correction: 7 runs
I'm so flustered I cant type straight

Why is he still pitching? Has Perno given up this game in hopes of trying to win the nightcap?

No wonder. They are playing in a damn swamp. This whole game is a debacle. Cy Young is going to get hit if he's sopping wet in the rain.

in other news, dawgs will play vandy for the title if we can pull out a win sometime today. And the announcers did mention Mcree sliding when he was throwing, but if thats the case then get the grounds crew out there to get some dry dirt on the ground until the ump calls the game. Btw, why in the world is such a nice baseball facility in Hoover? Im going to guess theres a minor league team?

I am not a whiner, but this baseball situation is completely unfair. LSU gets to bat for 15 minutes in the pouring down rain with our pitcher sliding on the mound with a wet ball and our fielders struggling to handle the ball. Next thing you know, LSU has seven runs and they are going to pick up with the sun is out and shining. We should at least get an inning in the pouring rain and see if we can even it out.

Doesn't it look like Old Lady Luck just spotting the cajuns seven runs?

Idiot umps letting them play in the rain! Brilliant.

bigger question is being posed: with an impending wash facing the tournament today, what does the SEC do to finish by tomorrow? They would doubtfully make a team play 3 games in one day (UGA) only to turn around and play a regional a few days later. So what do they do? Finish the game going on to let the winner advance (completely unfair considering UGA is undefeated in the tournament while LSU has 1 loss and a 7 run lead), or let UGA advance to play Vandy due to our record and apologize to LSU (still completely unfair to the tigas). Obviously I'd say the second option is best considering whats at stake for all teams involved, and my bias, but the SEC has really screwed this one up bad

I'll be satisfied if they hose down LSU's starting pitcher before each batter during the bottom of the first.

any word on what they're doing yet? what a joke. Mike Slive botched this one.

I'm personally writing a letter to the SEC after this is all over. What they did might not seem like a big deal, but those 10 minutes of baseball ruined our chances of moving on to the next round. LSU will likely save the pitcher that was GOING to pitch game one for game two since they have essentially clinched the first game before the end of the first. Add on that McRee probably wont be able to go back out after a three hour delay, we got completely screwed. This is unbelievable.

I hope that our guys step out of the box 2 or 3 times every at bat. Pitcher should walk around the mound before every pitch. Make this a 5 hour game and make the SEC office have to do something.

This is really ridiculous.

Let's just get on with the mercy rule and head to game #2. This is horrible. Good thing I can only hear this online and can't see it on TV.

Valley Dawg - the game is on FSN if you have access to that.

It would be nice to take our heads out of our asses and start hitting the ball.

Yep, we got screwed-DEAL WITH IT!

LSU has no pitchers left. Let's get in their pen.

Thanks, I'm in California though and all I have access to on Dish is Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Sounds like the next game MIGHT be shown online.

I never thought I would point to Dennis Felton as an example of great coaching, but at least he did not fold the tent like a p*ssy when he got screwed in the SEC basketball tourney last year. He got his team to ignore all the bs and go out and compete.

Perno, you are an embarrassment to the University of Georgia.

Did we get royally screwed today? It was obvious to anyone who watched.

Is that a reason to fold the tent and whine like a little baby and advocate quitting?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!

You did a great disservice to your players tonight and you should be embarrassed. I am sure that you will have all sorts of quotes in the paper about how we got railroaded and you will be absolutely right about that.

However, it would be nice to see you get your team to come back out and compete. LSU has no pitchers left. Did you know that?

We still play them again, maybe you can get your guys to play then? Or maybe you will just keep up your protest and try to prove a point?

Lay off the sauce and go to bed, if you are not drinking... Call you doctor tomorrow, because you need some meds.

To ever say "Perno, you are an embarrassment to the University of Georgia." you are make yourself seem like an embarrassment to not only Georgia fans, but to humans in general.

Get your ^($% together and GTFO!
