NCAA Regional Baseball Projections and RPI info

Image: Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha

The College Baseball Blog has updated their NCAA Regional Projections. They obviously no longer have UGA with a national seed, but they do see us clinging on to a Regional Speed. From the look of that bracket, we're probably the last team to get a regional.

In their projection, Miami would be the #2 seed in the Athens regional, and we would likely face UNC in Chapel Hill if we were to advance. If we don't take care of business this weekend at home against Vandy, we're going to fall out of the regional host site projections. That scenario would either put us in the Clemson regional with the Gators in the Super Regional should we advance or in Atlanta with GT.

Right now, UGA is in 6th place in the SEC. Florida and LSU will beat up on each other this weekend, and Ole Miss and Arkansas will collide next weekend. If we take care of our business, we can get back into the top half of the bracket before Hoover. But that's going to require dramatically better pitching than we got last week when no lead was safe.

Our RPI is currently 19th, and we're ranked 13th, 14th and 22nd in the various polls.

Best case scenario for fans: hosting a regional with Miami.

Best case scenario for team getting to Omaha: going to Clemson. Then going to Florida. Two venues UGA has played very well at the last few years. I want no part of Miami or UNC. I do however want a rematch with Florida for all the marbles. The way they paraded around the bases like douche bags made me angry. Hopefully the team feels likewise.

Miami is terrible this year. After Hernandez, they have very little pitching.

Paul I'm suprised you haven't commented on the actions last night of a Mr. Jeffrey Charnelle Dantzler.

Rivals has us going to Miami as a 2-seed and matching up with UF in a super should we advance.

This stuff is impossible to predict at this point, though. We have a pretty good idea of which teams are in or out, but not one of who will play who.

If we don't host, we'll either be in Atlanta, Clemson, Miami or Tallahassee as a 2. Florida (though I wouldn't be surprised if LSU sweeps them this weekend and they fall out of a national seed) and UNC are the most likely super regional opponents (I don't expect GT to get a national seed) but if we're in Tallahassee, LSU is certainly a possibility.

None of this matters if we don't play much better coming out of the break than we have the last two weeks.

I think GT takes 2 out of 3 against FSU this weekend. I am not a huge believer in the Noles.

Also, one of the two between Ohio State and Minnesota is going to host. They won't deserve it, but in the interest of the NCAA's version of yankee affirmative action, they'll get it. It might be as a 1 or it might be as a 2 if they can't justify it.

IT is very simple...Fire the coach..UGA cant beat anybody that can hit like Miami

You guys are funny! How much actual baseball do you watch. If you can not see that the Dawgs major issue is pitching, maybe you should stick with chicks gymnastics! This team has talent all over the field, they simply lack depth in the rotation.

Anon (4:28),

Who are you talking about? There's not a single comment (positive or negative) on the team's play other than to say that we need to play better than we have lately.

This post (and the replies) are all about who we would potentially face in the NCAAs.

Our relief pitching sucks and the bottom of our order cant hit the ball to save their life. That is the problem with this team.

Gotta sweep Vandy. Got to.

Whatever "Regional Speed" is, it is headed in the wrong direction
