SEC Baseball Tourney Enters Day Two

Georgia broke out of its slump yesterday with a 6-3 win over Ole Miss. During the regular season, the SEC Co-Champ Rebels took two of three from the Dawgs. However, Georgia wouldn't be denied as Matt Cerione hit a grand slam and drove in an additional RBI to seal it for the Dawgs. Justin Grimm also pitched his tail off in the win.

Today, Georgia faces Arkansas at approximately 6:00 pm ET on CSS. The winner gets Friday off which is critical for resting pitchers and getting ready for two potential games on Saturday.

What does GATA mean? I know that probably sounds dumb, but I seriously don't know that acronym.

GATA
GA Tech Athletic

or what Erk said was "get after that a$$"

The full story of "GATA" goes something like this:

Sometime during the Dooley/Erk era (I'm guessing the 60s), the team was in the locker room at GT. There was all this stuff (equipment, supplies, etc.) in the room that had "GTAA" stencilled on it, GTAA being "Georgia Tech Athletic Association." Erk was exhorting his defense (or maybe the whole team) and said something like "Put that A in front of that T and GET AFTER THAT ASS!" And a slogan was born.

GREAT finish tonight... where has this kind of clutch play been when we needed for the past.... month?

I'd love to see this carry into the tourney, of course we know how little SEC tourney play reflects NCAA tourney play.

The good thing is the pitching looks great, but our hitting still sucks. Cerione been most of the offense right now and they need more if we plan to make a run.

So GATA means get after their a$$ or GA tech athletics?

GTAA = GT Athletic Association

GATA = Get After their Ass
