The amazing thing is the violation to punishment to talent equation on the 24 Gator arrests since Meyer took over in Gainesville. It's not the quantity that blows me away. It's the punishment vs. the severity of the offenses or in other cases the frequency by which the offense seemed to evaporate inside the Gainesville Judicial System.

How many arrests have we had over the same period of time?
UGA has probably had about the same in that period. The difference being a fairly high percentage of them were underage drinking, open container, public intoxication related. The Jim Rome's of the world then blow it out of proportion making UGA sound like it's an institution of dumb jock criminal thugs...no wait...that's Florida!
I hope that no one is currently working on an article detailing the arrests of UGA football players!
If memory serves correctly, I think the fight at The Library was the most serious we've had in a while. Everything else was, as stated, underage or open container or a traffic violation
Looks like Urban has been more strict than I expected. Most of those guys were kicked off the team. It's amazing how many of the charges were dropped though. Think them being UF football players had anything to do with that?
I do notice a discrepancy in the punishment of those that saw significant playing time and those that didn't. I'm just saying.
For the record, we've had thirty arrests in that same time period. I hate to call us out, but we're actually worse off from a numbers standpoint. Our difference is how we handle it.
Also, how many of those arrests were for speeding? I'll take 30 arrests over 24 if we keep getting arrested for piddly shit and UF's guys keep getting arrested for stealing dead girls' credit cards.

The courts and authorities down there seem to be filling in as the 12th man.
Any group of men at a large state school is going to have bunches of inexcusable behavior (I shudder to think of my own). What strikes me as ridiculous is Urban's penchant to punish players in a fashion that isn't very punishing (like the week 3 game vs. Slippery Rock instead of week 1 vs. an SEC opponent). At least he's not blinding himself and spinning "Aw Shucks" wisdom like Bowden.
Meyer's penchant for discipline (or lack thereof) is far less concerning to me than the Gainesville judicial system.
It appears Corch leaves it up to the lawyers. If you skate, no harm no foul. If they convict you, you're gone.

Damn straight. I wonder how many Gators have gotten busted for moving violations and open containers, and the charges simply went away. Or if the Gainsville PD doesn't waste their time with drinking college students. I'm no judge, but I'm pretty sure stalking and date rape is worse than driving a scooter illegally.

Looked like there were some "resisting arrest" charges in there that were eventually dropped. THAT is fishy. Seriously, is the DA a season ticket holder?
I'm sure the DA is a season ticket holder... i'm pretty certain that he's a UF grad.
Remember the ak-47 was only for 1 year he was back playing last year(only serious charges warrant 2 years).
As I have consistently said, only the Athens PD nit picks athletes and makes public stupid crap that goes on on all campuses. Think the Atlanta PD worry about Ga Techies driving without a liscense or speeding on campus. They wouldn't stop you unless you hit someone. Right little Joe. Same for Gainsville Fl Pd and others.
I think many college kids would love to know how the one player got his marijuana possession charges dropped.
All those moving violations and suspended license charges are offense that are NOT mandatory arrest violations. Our esteemed Athens PD and UGA PD could issue warnings verbally on some of the issues, but instead that choose to arrest. I have been pulled over without proof of insurance and gotten a ticket but I wasn't arrested. I asked a local deputy about the suspended license issue and he stated that he could arrest or he could warn and impound the vehicle so that the offender couldn't drive it until the license was brought valid.
Its all up to the officer.

Been there done that. The DA and your attorney split the bail money - charges dropped. I was actually told by my attorney that this was gonna happen and asked if I would agree to it. Six of us were caught smoking out and they made the same deal with all of us. Pretty good payday for them. And none of us were players.
Discharging an AK47 in public? Stealing credit cards off dead bodies? Sure, just the whims of a young 18-22 year old. So for full disclosure - I and a group of whimsical friends did raid O-House with water guns once. And in another incident, yes, said friends and I were briefly detained by our fine campus police for water ballooning coeds in white tshirts who were running down Millege. No charges were filed so I was fortunate to resume my college football career.
I think the most interesting arrest is Cam Newton. I had no idea of this or his transfer to JUCO. I think he is a good kid, just running with the wrong crowd. Thank goodness for CMR and his ping pong recruiting tactics!! GO DAWGS!
