ESPN's Oklahoma State Preview

A few weeks ago Quinton wrote a pretty balanced piece about the relative awfulness of Oklahoma State defense. On Tuesday, I went back at their offense and defense a bit a few days ago over on the DawgRun.

As my retort to ESPN's comment that they have one of the best offenses in the country, I would retort that much of their greatness was manufactured at the expense of America's Top Cupcakes.

Yes, they have great stats on offense, but look at who they ran the numbers up against. Overall, the Cowboys averaged 40.8 points per game on offense. That's good enough for 9th in the nation. However, against schools with a losing overall record or from a non-BCS conference, that scoring average ballooned to 55 points per game.

Against BCS schools that did not have a losing record, they only averaged 29 points per game. Just saying...look closer at the numbers.

Also, we linked yesterday to the outrageous predictions by T. Boone Pickens that the Cowboys would score 387 points on the Dawgs. I found some other good reactions to that news that I thought you'd appreciateSee Also:

Just to add to the pile-on.

Love the new header pic and tagline.

.. and the only reason that T.Boone went to OSU was because he lost his scholorship to Texas A&M. And back then it was Oklahoma A&M anyway. The only reason he is so good with oil is because he knew those dinosaurs personally before they died...

Thanks for the link! No one since The Kiaser of the Visor has generated such pre-season buzz.

I'm going to predict that their QB doesn't finish the game.

Just call him Jared zabransky jr.

It's pretty sad when Criag James is the more cogent of the group.

Martinez is hungry, Owens is hungrier, Rennie's last name is Curran...the entire D will have their fair share of boot spurs.

Go Dawgs!

6.85 points per second? Um, no.

6.85 points per minute.

As much as I disliked it in WLCP '07, a small part of me wants to see the Dawgs give osu the TD Dance Party USA.

I guess proper decorum means we'll see Defender jumping into a player's arms after an interception like some sort of romantic cellphone ad like in the sUGAr Bowl.

BTW, What's the over/under on stupid penalties w/ Owens in the huddle this year?

Sorry this is off topic, but there are some cheap lower level season tickets on StubHub. They are listed as Faculty/Staff tickets and a UGA ID is required to use them. Will my Student ID work for those (was current 2 years ago)? Do they really check IDs for Faculty? Any insight you can provide would be helpful. I don't want to drop some money on something I can't use.

I think the more interesting fact is not how many points T. Boone predicts his cowboys will score, but that he is realistic enough that he still predicts that Okie State will give up more than three touchdowns.

F/S tickets aren't like tickets. They are cards with the F/S person's name on them. One is supposed to have an ID to use the assigned card and, if there are two, the other will say "guest of" F/S person.

In the past, timing your entrance into the game at a high-volume point precludes an ID check.

Will that change? I think at some point, F/S will be put on the student model; but it does seem that re-selling of student tickets to non-students has overshadowed any F/S shenanigans.

If you aren't paying out the nose (cost to F/S is 1/2 price + $15) for them, it may be worth a try.
