Oklahoma City Newspaper on the Dawg Fans...

The (link fixed) actual newspaper article is dramatically better than the interview above. The article ponders the question of how many UGA fans will attend the game. I agree with one of the assumptions in the article...about 8k is my guess.

Although, I do have to laugh at the question of whether or not it's silly to pay $4k to go to this game (that's the cut-off score). That's not really how it works or how anyone contributing to the program would look at it. But regardless, if you want to go...tickets for UGA vs. Oklahoma State on Stubhub start at $110 each as of the time of this posting. That's just $10 over face value.

At that price...how can you afford not to go?

It's NOT sold out?

And I thought Jenni Carlson was fat? She's not fat.

The link is broke.

Is anyone starting a tailgate spot for all of us UGA fans going out there? Is there a bar or hotel that everyone is going to? I'd like to meet up and tailgate with some fellow dawgs....

Dang it.

So OSU has created a situation where at least 20% of the fans will be UGA fans and over 15,000 seats will be empty.

I cannot believe this is true.

I echo the General's first question; the game's not sold out? How can that be? I just assumed it had been sold out for months.

Smitty said...

Haha what about the huge atmosphere their fans spew about this game!? All those empty seats in a stadium of 60K is going to look pathetic.

SC Dawg said...

There were plenty of tickets that went unsold last year when OSU played Oklahoma. That was the "premium" game last year.

Despite pleas to release the tickets as single game sales, OSU AD Holder refused to budge. So, it was either buy a season ticket package for the last game or no sales at all.

The dude on the video should have told Jenni Carlson that he too is a man, and his age.

Just I am clear. In order to go to one game at OSU you have to buy a season ticet at $479. They only sold 42000 tickets plus the 5K tickets UGA gets. So that is 47000 tickets seats purchased in the stadium. The capacity of the stadium is 60,000 so you are looking at 13000 seats that will be empty. How horrid!!!!!

What a business model?!!?

wouldnt it be nice to see as many georgia fans there as okla state fans probabley wont happen but i deffently want to hear UGA chants all around that stadium to show okla state that our fan bases our one of the best in the nation
because i really think okla state fans are taking georgia as a joke
by not selling out. GO DAWGS

Yeah, too bad that the game is in Stillwater, Oklahoma where you can't even get REAL BEER.

I considered going to this game, but I simply can't justify the expense unless there's something else to build on. I wish I was going, but I had to make economic choices here.

See ya'll in Boulder for sure, though.

Oklahoma State's fanbase isn't big enough to justify the size of their stadium (only 60K).

The UGA fanbase won't travel near as well to this game as it did to Arizona State last year (25,000 of y'all in Tempe). Oklahoma and Arizona really don't compare in terms of travel destinations.

In the words of Bill Goldberg, "Boulder, Colorado, your're next!" I cant wait for that road trip.

16,000+ empty seats? Are they in the MWC?

Anonymous said...

JasonC,

I can absolutely guarantee you that if we were playing at Utah or BYU or TCU or AFA the damn stadium would be packed. What makes you believe that Mountain West Stadiums would have empty seats?

Wow, so as of now, almost a quarter of their stadium is going to be empty.

I did not know about this ticket situation either. Top 10 pre-season ranking, new stadium debut, a marquee opponent in a nationally televised game, and you still can't sell out? Um, ok. Strange.

I couldn't find a more appropriate place to post this question so I'll do it here: is anybody else concerned that Richt is thinking about letting Samuel return kickoffs again? He didn't exactly seem like a natural last year with the fumbles and the fact that he catches the ball falling backwards. Not sure if he had any decent returns. Thoughts?

SC Dawg said...

The big problem that I have with our kick returns is that there is only one deep returner. There should never be less than two. A good directional kicker could make that single returner run all over field to catch the ball like Georgia Tech did.

There is no way that they're going to leave 13,000 seats empty. We have to be misreading this or something... right? Did the Oklahoma game really not sell out last year? If this information is correct, than if I were T. Boone, I would be beyond pissed. I mean, you shell out hundreds of millions of dollars (Again, HUNDREDS of MILLIONS) to an athletic program that can't even fill a stadium of 60,000? It really seems unfathomable. Someone please clarify.

Just curious PWD if you're gonna do the Office Pool Pick 'Em League like you did last year? I hope so, it was the best and biggest one around. Thanks.

In contrast, Wyoming has sold out its "biggest game in school history" against Texas on 09/12/09.

Its an incredibly short-sited way for the OSU AD to do things. Not selling out games against UGA, OU, and UT is going to hurt both their game atmosphere and their recruiting. Hope they enjoy continuing to be thought of as a "second tier" Big 12 school. (Not to say they won't have a good year this year, or that they can't beat UGA.)

If we were playing Utah or BYU or TCU, I'd be going.

Dubbayoo said...

At first I was going to say the A.D. is correct - somebody who wouldn't pay $479 to watch UGA, OU and Texas isn't much of a fan. However they play AT Oklahoma so it's less of a deal. Kinda hard to get excited about their other home creampuffs Houston, Rice, Grambling, etc.

I predict OSU finishes out of the top 20. Their only shot at a quality win is against UGA.

SC Dawg said...

Last year, the capacity for Pickens Stadium was around 52,000. The official attendance for the Oklahoma game was 49,031.

The Texas game is not a premium game, so Texas fans can buy all of the tickets they want, probably for less than $100.00. Season ticket purchases are not necessarily required for that game.

You want to see insanity? Check out the prices on TM for Okie State games. The face value of a pair of upper level, high row pair vs. Texas? $200 plus fees. It's like they want to do everything they can to make sure they don't sell any tickets.

Check it out here, search any game:
