ABC Coverage Map

For you out-of-state Dawgs, here's the ABC television coverage map.  The official map is supposed to be released on ESPN's website tomorrow.  Judging by the looks of that link, though, I'd say that's the leaked version.

Not that it helps you Virginia and Carolina Dawgs, but ESPNU should be replaying the game next Wednesday at 2 eastern.

Will UGA be on ESPN2 in the Carolinas. Sucks out lout we get Baylor vs WFU

Paul said...

I rely on this tv schedule. It's comprehensive and gives you alternatives.

http://www.lsufootball.net/tvschedule.htm

I think the answer to your question is yes. Or "Gameplan."

Unknown said...

REALLY, ABC?! Wake at Baylor?! You guys suck. Do Wake fans even want to watch that game? I live in Georgia but WSB is too pathetic to set up a repeater or two so WLOS is all we get out here. This really sucks.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding me???? We're getting get wake forest at baylor in virginia.
Is gameplan my only other option? Please advise.

Hunkering Hank said...

What the hell is with that little piece of Georgia getting Wake Baylor?

The Watch Dawg said...

I would wager that there are more Georgia fans in the area receiving BU-WFU than Wake Forest fans. Sucks for them. ABC screwed that one up.

PTC DAWG said...

Yes, if you're not in the OK ST/UGA region, Gameplan is your only other option in your house...you could always move....

Unknown said...

This sucks. I live in Carolina too, and I guess "Gameplan" means no HD. On top of that, I can't TVo the game to rewatch the victory, and I'll have to find a bar to watch this. Seriously, who gives a F about Baylor/WFU. Damn you ESPN/ABC...

Anonymous said...

this is the worst thing that's happened to me all year. I HATE watching games in bars. i might have to gameplan it...

Unknown said...

So will 360 have this game? I might be able to talk someone into letting me use their Comcast login since I live in the small green circle of hell in Georgia and Windstream is too cheap to spring for 360.

Question. I'm looking to buy tix off StubHub for the Carolina game and want to know where the faculty seating is so I don't get screwed on that. Anyone know what sections those are?

Irwin R. Flecther said...

How pissed are those folks in Royston and Elberton going to be? I assume they can get the game if they get WSB from the ATL, right?

Doesn't Coach Richt have a lake house on Hartwell? I hope no one there is planning on watching the Dawgs.

Anonymous said...

Damn, this can't be true. I get Wake Baylor????

THIS IS A PERFECT TIME TO PANIC!!!

Ugh, I'm gonna puke.

HVL DAWG

Anonymous said...

Does CBS also have regional blackouts like this? if i have to deal with this every saturday, i might have to move.

sUGArdaddy said...

ESPN.com says that Wake/Baylor is on 360 and not ABC.

Anonymous said...

With the new ESPN/SEC deal, there is no way that ABC could do this.

The Wake game should be broadcast at their student center. There are more UGA fans in Winston-Salem than Wake fans.

I hope that map is a hoax, because I will be in that area. Uggghhh.

Anonymous said...

Irvin Fletcher,

I am one of those people on hartwell. And I hope this is wrong, my best guess right now is that the local ABC will have Wake and espn2 will carry the UGA game. I cannot imagine this not being shown after the espn/SEC deal.

We will know for sure tomorrow.

I'm in the Outer Banks for two weeks, driving back to Arlington Saturday, and I just got off the the phone with the person I dispatched to my house to set the DRV. There was a lot of "Whaddya mean it's not on the schedule," from my end.

Now I know. You get used to the CBS 100% national ironclad guarantee.

D,JD. Now the question becomes can I stay sober enough Friday to get up early enough Saturday to stuff more junk than would fit into a Suburban into a Subaru and drive like one of Travis Henry's children to get back to Arlington in time to get to a sports bar. Prognosis doubtful.

Any map for Canada? I'm stuck in Victoria, BC on Saturday.

RedCrake said...

At least now those people in Montana will know about Georgia.

Damon, your plan is working brilliantly.

Anonymous said...

You know what's even dumber? The Wake Forest green section that dips into Georgia appears to almost go into ATHENS! WTF?

Anonymous said...

Michigan vs. W. Michigan is on ABC in my 'hood. I have to live amongst insufferable Ohio State fans and now this? What a horrible game. It shouldn't be on ABC anywhere other than Ann Arbor and wherever the hell Western Michigan is. I am pissed.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone confirm that the game will be on ESPN2 or ESPN in North Carolina? That makes sense but I'd like to make other plans to watch the game now as opposed to at 3:00 on saturdya.

Anonymous said...

on the wake forest scout.com message board, they are saying that Michigan has espn2 in NC because the big 10 threw a bunch of money at ABC to guarantee them to be on SOME channel all across the country.

if you have UGA/OSU on abc, you are good to go and you will have Michigan/w michigan on espn2.

if you have wake/baylor on abc, you are effyouseekay'd and will have michigan/w michigan on espn2. you need to go to a bar, get on espn360.com, or order gameplan.

if you have michigan/w michigan on abc, you are in luck. UGA/osu will be on espn2 in your area.

F this.

Anonymous said...

This is the description of the game from Raleigh's ABC website. Wow.

College Football Baylor at Wake Forest
Georgia Bulldogs at Oklahoma State Cowboys from Boone Pickens Stadium (TVPG) QB Matthew Stafford leads RB Knowshon Moreno and the Bulldogs in their first match against QB Zac Robinson, RB Keith Toston and the Cowboys

Anonymous said...

Sweet!

I'm getting Michigan vs Western Michigan.

"But Honey, I have to go to the bar and get wasted. The UGA game isn't on TV!"

Anonymous said...

For direct tv customers check your channel guide. I live in georgia on lake hartwell and checked the gameplan schedule, it is on channel 211 (not HD) if you have choice or higher package. I would upgrade to choice because it will still be cheaper than gameplan. I am still waiting to confirm if espn2 and the local abc are not carrying the game.

Good luck!!!

nemov said...

I guess I picked the wrong weekend to go to NC.

Anonymous said...

ESPN2 is not showing the UGA game anywhere.

So, if you live in the WFU-Baylor region, then you get Mich-WMich on ESPN2.

Unfortunately, the WFU-Baylor region includes upstate SC, part of GA (Elberton?), Charlotte, and northwards to DC.

Anonymous said...

This really sucks in Charlotte as I invited people over to watch the game. We don't have ESPN gameplan. Now we have to go somewhere.

Ross said...

The problem with Lake Hartwell and Elberton catching the Wake games is that the ABC affiliate in Greenville is closer mileage wise than Atlanta. We used to get both channels but a couple of years ago they raised a fuss and now we only have the Carolina affiliate.

Unknown said...

7-5, that's only the half of it. When you say "We used to get both channels" I assume you're talking about through a cable or satellite provider. If you actually stick a decent antenna up in the air in Elberton, you'll get WLOS loud and clear. There is NO WAY you'll pick up WSB. You may be able to pick up the Augusta ABC affiliate. I could sorta pick up Augusta's analog feed in Commerce but there was way too much static for it to be watchable. I used to live in Cumming and had a hard time picking up WSB.

This is only tangentially related since this game is not technically part of the new SEC/ESPN deal, but I fired up the wayback machine for some fun. I remember when the ESPN/SEC deal was first announced and our very own PWD was praising it so hard. He specifically commented:
"The TV footprint for the 12:30 games that were previously on TV with JP/LF/Raycom is now DRAMATICALLY larger with ESPN. The B'Ham news article specifically says that ESPN is talking to TV stations in Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Houston and Columbus, Ohio about airing SEC games on REGULAR TV for free."

And he's right, the footprint is huge. You can see the Georgia game broadcast for free just about everywhere except for... you know... northeast Georgia. Just wait until the season gets into full swing and we're preempted left and right for subpar ACC matchups and Big 10 games nobody south of Michigan cares about. I'd rather actually get to watch the games on Raycom than get preempted on ABC/ESPN.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: This new deal sucks for anyone who doesn't want to fork over mega-bucks for special ESPN packages.

Anonymous said...

7-5 you hit the nail on the HEAD in your last paragraph and for us with families that are on tighter budgets, it sucks that common sense can't enter here and televise a game so folks here in the SE can watch with out having to go out to a bar.

Anon at 1:05--how do you know that we will get UGA on ESPN2? I already hate living in Big 10 country and now I can't even watch our "nationally televised" game?!? Where are the ESPN2 listings based on region posted?

Anonymous said...

http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide

This is a good link... although they haven't posted the regional maps yet. I suppose we have no reasons to doubt the leaked version, I would like to know for certain before i pay $24 for ESPN gameplan for the saturday. I can't believe I have to pay ESPN because they screwed me.

sUGArdaddy said...

Dante (and everyone)...don't panic about this new package. This game is not part of the new package. It is a Big 12 home game under the Big 12's agreement w/ ABC.

Our deal includes any game played in an SEC stadium. That means that those (formerly regional) 12:30 games will be on nationally, and that's a big plus for people out of the region.

Perhaps the Granite Guidestones interfere with the signal.

Or, is this the work of Dutchy, the Yankee disguised as a Confederate Veteran?

http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/7958

Any chance they could set up a projector and everyone could watch the game at The Granite Bowl?

Right now, TV Guide's listings for the Chicago area (I've heard some murmurings of Dawgs in Big Ten country) lists ABC's game as "To Be Announced" but ESPN2 lists "Western Michigan v. Michigan" or "Georgia v. Oklahoma St." Presumably, this means that at least in the midwest, ESPN2 will carry the Georgia game if you're in an area where Michigan get's ABC's slot. I would hope the same would be true for the Carolina's with respect to the Wake game. We shall see.

I can't imagine the ABC family of networks forcing people to buy Gameplan instead of getting the revenue from advertising that would be generated by having Georgia v. OSU on ESPN2. Most of my non-Michigan friends up here are dying to see the Georgia game in that time slot.

Here's the link to the official coverage map. It's as we feared.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=coveragemaps2009

Having lived in NC for 12 years it's no suprise to me. I love the Tar Heel state but it's the blackhole for football. Viewwers will be forced to watch two bad games.

Frank Franklin said...

This is unreal. Total disaster. According to espn's broadcast map, the UGA game is not on ABC or ESPN2. It is only available through Gameplan.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=coveragemaps2009

I say make as many phone calls, e-mails, etc. to ESPN to get this changed. There is still time. I do not want to have to spend $120 to order Gameplan, nor do I want to go to a bar, and there is no guarantee that a bar will even have the game (because apparently you need Gameplan).

The phone number to ESPN's corporate office is 860-766-2000. Ask for TV Programming. I already left a message and am about to call back to see if I can get a live operator.

Anonymous said...

To follow up on Frank Franklin's post above, there is also a way to talk to a live chat operator on ESPN.com. Go to espn.com, scroll down on the main page to the very bottom, there is a "Contact Us" link in small gray font. Click on that link, then click the link for "ESPN TV/ABC SPORTS." Once there, there is an option to "Chat with us." Do that and complain about the coverage.

I think we all should definitely mention the amount of UGA fans in the area and how many people are affected by this and upset about it. The more people that do this, the better chance we have to get the game switched to ESPN2 at the minimum so we can hopefully get the Dawgs in HD.

48 hours til kickoff. The Dawgs are back!!!

Anonymous said...

Looks like if you can get gameplan the cost is only $24 (per week)

http://proxy.espn.go.com/ncf/gameplan/index?status=viewpage&ccv=0

I know its bs, but it's less than $120. Still won't be in HD though.

Anonymous said...

Gameplan price depends on your cable provider. Some offer single-week or half-season packages, others make you buy the whole season.

Also, I agree with the other two guys - let's flood ESPN with complaints. There is also a link to e-mail them right below the link to talk to a live operator that Anonymous was talking about.

Anonymous said...

I do agree that everyone should flood ESPN with calls, but the person who really needs to call is Damon. If I were Damon... My God I would be letting Mickey Mouse and his ABC/ESPN friends have it. We just ink this huge deal, and then you blackout part of Georgia? This is NOT the way you start a business relationship.

Unknown said...

Dante,

You got it backwards. The ESPN/CBS/SEC deal works because of this weekend.

This is how Big 12 / ACC / Big 10 / Pac 10 fans live EVERY WEEK. Can you imagine being a Texas or OU fan missing the red river shootout for the Wake vs BC game? Well...that happens.

The only time that happens to us is when we play one of those jokers....on the road.

Anonymous said...

dude I am freaking out... I live in DC...please tell me I am going to be able to head to a sports bar and be able to watch the UGA game.
GA/OSU shafted for the wake game....this is cruel. and stupid. and cruel.

I'm in the same boat. Visiting DC this weekend and just got the bomb that I'm blessed with the Wake-Baylor. I'll be watching the game at either of these Dawg friendly establishments:

This is the biggest BS move in the history of TV BS moves... I for one REFUSE to pay ESPN to screw me, so I will be watching via stream on these here intarnets. For those who don't know how to do this I will now tell you... justinTV, channelsurfing.net, myp2p.eu, Veetle.com, and more. You'll likely have to download some sort of viewer to go along with their links, but they're always cost/spyware-free and often just use windows media player. My fave is an HD veetle feed, but SopCast or TVU links will suffice just fine. The worst IMO is TVants, which is all japped out and full of foreign adds or something, but hey... I'll do that before I buy gameplan. F- you ESPN, F- you hard, right in the ear.

RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE

Sucks for those who planned on watching in groups, but if you're gonna be by yourself I strongly encourage you to pirate the signal as well. D@mn the man, fight the power.

Unknown said...

I don't have anything backwards. Like it or not, we're now competing for airtime against the ACC "EVERY WEEK." Not on the ABC feed, but certainly on the ESPN lineup. The ACC has 3 teams in the Carolinas. Anyone depending on a Carolina-dominant feed (like anyone along the Hartwell border) for television will be pulling hair every single time UNC, Wake, or NC State plays at the same time Georgia does. At least before our only competition for airtime was SCar.

PTC DAWG said...

Dante, I'm sorry, but you're wrong...

What situation would you be in if UGA was opening with Georgia Southern, and the game was PPV? Or Gameplan only. You fail to realize that we are playing in an AWAY Big 12 Stadium...

Unknown said...

I hope I'm wrong but I don't see any evidence of that yet. Georgia Southern isn't a valid comparison. This week is a real football game. There is no scenario that puts a glorified scrimmage up on non-pay TV.

Tell you what, there's too much speculation. Instead I will throw out a prediction. That puts the argument at a rest for now which is a good thing since we can't really go any further on the information we have at hand.

On 9/26, Georgia plays Arizona State in Athens. That same day, Wake plays BC, UNC plays GA Tech, and NC State plays Pitt at NC State. That's 3 ACC-televised games and 1 SEC-televised game. This will probably not be a double-header week for CBS. CBS' likely candidates will be our game, Arkansas vs. Bama, and Florida vs. Kentucky. SCar does play Ole Miss that week but that will be a Thursday game.

My prediction is simple: If CBS does not pick up the Georgia game on 9/26, the same Georgia-border folks who can't see the Georgia game this week will also not be able to see the Arizona State game. Once again, I hope I'm wrong.

I have been running mad for two days now trying to figure out this game shuffle. First they tells us it is on ABC, then maybe ESPN2 and now just PPV. I have a feeling that there will be at least 4 games on PPV if you live in NC. The only hang up i really have is that game plan is not in HD. That really sucks!!!

Wake.... what a joke! Even #1 FL is PPV here...

This new contract sucks! I never had to worry about 3 or more games on PPV prior. Guess it is my money that is paying for that big contract.

At least if i have to pay, it could be in HD!

I'm in Asheville, North Carolina and was shocked to learn that ABC is not carrying my Dawgs. ESPN2 is carrying Michigan and West Michigan. This is terrible. I am having to listen to coverage on Bulldog Radio. How can something like this happen?????
