Hairy Dawg on Tailgating
Saturday is a very big day for the future of tailgating at UGA. Particularly for those of you who tailgate on North Campus. Just bring some bags and put your crap in it. It's not like they are asking you to drive you trash to the county dump before kickoff. Just bag your stuff.
It's your choice. If you want something like The Grove at Ole Miss, you have to treat North Campus with respect. If you want something like a NASCAR infield, you can kiss tailgating in that area as we know it now goodbye.
It's up to you.

We are going to trash Athens like you guys trashed Tempe! Uga fans are the worst I've ever seen! We have 7k Devils headed your way. We know we can score on UGA with Martinez as your DC. SPARKIE wins 31-28.
I'm bringing my rifle and trusty beretta sidearm to the game and am going to blow the brains out of the first person I see walk away from their trash. Hopefully there will be some Gator fans on North Campus.
Thanks PWD for helping keep this issue front and center.
My name is Brian Huff, I'm a student at UGA and a member of the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. I just wanted to let all of your readers know that we our running a Gameday Garbage Bag Drive this season to help try and avoid another situation like we saw two weeks ago. Long story short, we are accepting donations of garbage bags themselves, as well as monetary donations that will directly go towards the purchase of bags in bulk. Bags for both recyclables and non-recyclables will be distributed to tailgaters all over campus Saturday.
For more info, or to make a small monetary donation via PayPal to help the cause, visit: http://www.terry.uga.edu/akpsi and click on the big green Gameday Garbage Bag Drive logo. Contact for AKPsi is melanielfoster@gmail.com.
Our organization and our beautiful campus will really appreciate any help that your generous readers can offer. Remember, Herschel didn't put it on the ground so why should you?
Thanks and LET'S GO DAWGS!!!
Also, if you see someone littering, with an over-flowing trash can, etc. speak up! It's okay to have pride in your campus and to peer-pressure others into keeping the place clean.
I will bag my trash just like I did last game, but will the University please haul away the trash immediately after kickoff. It was not the fans that trashed North Campus, but scavengers looking for aluminum cans, they were the ones that ripped apart the trash bags and scattered trash all over campus.
Anonymous ..
It's true that "scavengers" were at least partly responsible for the mess. I saw several digging through ripped-open trash bags, contributing to the litter.
However, that these "scavengers" bear some responsibility for the mess does not excuse everyone else. Now that we know the problem exists, we must all take some responsibility for the end result. Throwing one's hands up in the air because there are scavengers and because someone didn't do the right thing to stop them and because the University didn't cart of the bags in time to beat them is not an acceptable stance.
Do not pass the buck. Don't expect the University to cart the trash away -- YOU should cart the trash away before going to the game. If it is reasonable for tailgaters to take some action toward preventing the problem, then tailgaters must take that action.
Personally, I think it's ridiculous to leave bags full of trash lying around campus in the first place. If you create more than casual trash that can be easily accommodated in the standard receptacles situated around campus, then collect and remove your trash from campus before going to the game. The University is not your personal waste management service.
And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE put leftover food in the bags too. There is still food rotting on the ground in front of the Chapel where folks dumped it after the South Carolina game, and that REALLY doesn't help when trying to recruit students to what is otherwise one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
Westerdawg, thanks for keeping this in the forefront! I hate having the rep that we won't be able to shake for a while now.
GO DAWGS! and Go Recycle.
"....drive you trash...."
How Freudian.
In response to the scavenger remark above, that couldn't be more off base. There just simply isn't the evidence to prove that and it is a way to exonerate fans from responsibility. Why would the hypothetical hobo have to go through trash when there is so much unbagged food and drinks at their disposal? Also, they're no longer searching for cans like in past years because no one is buying them anymore, the market has plummeted. The fact is that this is a byproduct of a certain group of fans that have not taken responsibility for their surroundings. Hopefully this will change with the current awareness of the problem. I too want to thank Westerdawg for keeping this on the frontburner...
Off topic...
Does anyone know if the Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall opens to the public on gameday. I remember going there before but was unsure. Bringing a friend to their first game and wanted to show them Herschel's Heisman.
In a completely unrelated note, add Jevan Snead to the growing list of SEC quarterbacks that would be holding a clipboard for Joe Cox.
Anon 10:45...
I second that. Funny I recall a list a couple of months back that had Joe Cox ranked at the bottom of SEC QBs. Wonder if that incredibly prescient asshat would mind updating that list for us now.
B: the scavengers aren't necessarily hobos and there is still a mkt (even if its not lucrative). I lived on S. Lumpkin in the 90's and on Sunday AM a family would go from house to house collecting cans for scrap. They drove a crappy mini-van and obviously didn't vacation at Sea Island, but they weren't homeless either.
There is a couple that live off Jefferson Road that scrap 365 days a yr in Athens. If you live on the West Side, you know who I'm describing. They push a grocery cart all over town collecting scrap.
Wow. A whopping 7000 ASU fans on the way. We sent what, 17-20,000 out there last year? There were 7000 Dawg fans at the Gordon Biersch in Tempe the night before gameday....
Going to be a good game though. Enjoy the humidity....
I'd like PWD or someone else to comment on how UGA gets absolutely no love from ESPN.
Did you hear those Ole Miss/ USC commentators last night?
They kept mentioning how USC let the Georgia game "slip away" and how Georgia "escaped" with a victory. Then the jackass says that South Carolina is a top 15 team.
They basically wrote off Georgia as getting a lucky win. I'm sorry but except for the first quarter, (after our obligatory early turnovers), UGA was in control of that game and SOUTH CAROLINA would have been lucky to get that win.
I'm tired of hearing this crap. Should Georgia look better for beating USC now that they've beaten Ole Miss? I heard no mention of that. Instead USC is getting praise. Give me a fu*ken break.
/end rant
Edit: That should say "Shouldn't" up top.
JackSpratDawg - I have never seen so many rednecks in one place in my life. Congrats! You Georgia folks are a bunch of fat slobs who don't know how to act.
Payback,
Sorry your girlfriend went home with a UGA fan last year. That's the only reason I can think of for why you have so much hate for us. I had fun with the ASU fans I met. I hope they enjoy Athens. I don't really get how we trashed Tempe, my only complaint is that we drank all the beer on Mill Ave. by about noon on gameday and we had to drink warm Miller Lite until gametime.
Wow, talk about coming to Athens with the wrong attitude.
You obviously were one of the Jackasses in Tempe last year. Most of the people there were nice enough though. If you come into Athens with a good attitude, win or lose, most people would extend you the courtesy that someone who travels halfway across the country deserves. Act like you are on this blag and all you'll leave with is a split lip and a loss.
Wait, ASU has a football team? Coulda fooled me.
JackSpratDawg - This is one of the most classic posts I've read on this website! So true..
"There were 7000 Dawg fans at the Gordon Biersch in Tempe the night before gameday...."
18 years tailgating in front of Terrell Hall. You want evidence come down after dark when the game has started and you will see the scavengers moving in and trashing the place. No excuses, just truth--they are not the problem, but do contribute. The University can help with this.
I trust everyone will take care of their trash tomorrow. Our group always has and will continue to do so.
It is just ashamed to me that any organization has to step up to clean the campus. What happened to personal responsibility, in other words clean up after yourself ..UGA fans. Pick up your own damn trash and don't wait for someone else to do it for you. In years past when we used to attend the games you never saw such. I love the Georgia bulldawgs and will support them every day of the week , but this type of action by those who attend the game really makes me sad.
It matters not to me who is doing it just clean up your own mess....I thought we were better than that ...I hope this changes this week.
Hey guys we couldn't trash the campus this week cuz of the rain. God got pissed and stepped in!
Go Dawgs!
