Every hotel likely has some sort of I Bowl discount. Mention that you're coming in for the game and see if they offer a discount. The bowl website has a feature that allows you to book hotel rooms through it, presumably with a bowl discount.
Here are some other recommendations:
- The Downtown Hilton - The nicest non-casino hotel in town. It's brand new and attached to the Shreveport Convention Center. It's where your wife wants to stay. I'm pretty sure it's the A&M team hotel.
- The Best Western Chateau Suites - Another downtown option that I'd recommend over the Holiday Inn downtown (of which I do not have a good impression). There should be an I Bowl discount, but you'll have to contact them directly instead of going through the I Bowl hotel website.
- The Clarion Hotel - This is the UGA team hotel, I think, but you shouldn't stay there. It's average at best.
- Don't forget Bossier City. There are a couple of the national brands across the river from Shreveport. Additionally, the Horseshoe hotel is probably the best casino hotel. Boomtown casino has a nice hotel on the Bossier side of the Red River, too.

What's wrong with the Clarion? This is not the first I've heard regarding how dismal it is, but what actually is wrong/average with it?
Though, you can't go wrong with a Hilton, no doubt.
I guess Damon is trying to save money to afford the new DC.
It's been a while since I stayed there, but it's just old and ill kept. It needs renovations.
Shreveport/Bossier City are just like any city of any decent in Louisiana- potentially violent. You can go from safe nightlife activities to shithole ghetto in less than 1 mile.
The same thing can be said for just about any urban city in America.
"If you're looking to gamble, the casinos are the best choice."
Yes, much better than that dice game in the back alley around the corner where you might get stabbed. Or the poker game at a one room, cinder block bar about 45 miles out of town in the middle of Cajun-nowhere where everyone else looks and talks like they're related. If you're gambling, the casinos are definitely the safe place to be.
Clarions are all bad. Hampton Inn's are maybe 10 bucks more and much better.
Instead of flying, I think the team should be forced to ride a charter bus out to Shreveport just so they remember what it feels like to go to a crappy bowl game. Combined with the Clarion Hotel, this would be good motivation for next year's team!
Each member of the team is responsible for getting themselves to the game on their own. There is no team transportation. This is how UGA has handled bowl transportation for a while.
Anon at 11:03 is right, the players are however given money to cover their transportation.. which is not a violation of any kind of NCAA rules btw.
Anon @ 8:05 my family reunion is actually in Biloxie MS this year(swanky, i know) so we wont be having our annual poker tournament this year.
Quinton- Any tips on where to stay for a couple of college students driving out there? what are some of the less-expensive places, but decent in quality.. close to all the action would be nice, i dont know how shreveport is layed out, is the stadium near all the good watering holes?
Joe-
I'm going to get to nightlife later this week or over the weekend. If I were coming in on a budget, I'd just get a room at a normal, national chain motel. The stadium is not in a part of town you want to stay in. All the casinos are in downtown Shreveport or along the river in Bossier City. Most of the good nightlife is around the intersection of Line Avenue and Pierremont Road.
$180 a night in Shreveport? In this economy? I didn't pay $180 a night in Honolulu and that was a 5 star resort on the ocean. If Damon and Richt wonder why fans aren't going to the game, the hotel rates might be the first place to look.
The prices at Sam's Town are inflated for the 4-5 days around the bowl game. Normal rates there are 90-100 in December (per their website). Not that it's worth 180, but it does have the best customer satisfaction scores of the hotels in Shreveport according to several of the major review sites.
i went to shreveport a few years ago when alabama played. there wasnt a whole lot near the stadium so if you're looking to eat or anything my advice would be drive across to bossier city. it was as if they had built a downtown area along the river. you park in a parking deck and then can walk around the "downtown" area. there were many resteraunts and stores, one of which was a bass pro shops. we went to this downtown area the day of the game to eat and it was filled with fans from both alabama and colorado. all and all this so called downtown was pretty cool and better than anything shreveport had to offer. also it was only about a 5 or 10 minute ride from independence stadium
Man, talk about slim pickings on hotels...
