According to this AJC article from July, Gaines played in Italy last year:
He carried that success to Italy, where he played for NGC Cantu. In 30 games, he averaged 31.9 minutes, 13.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals. His game-high was a 25-point performance. He played so well, in fact, that if he returns to Italy for another season, it won’t be with Cantu, which can’t afford him now.If you're a Dawg living in Boise, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Reno or Austin, he's coming to visit soon. Drop by and yell Go Dawgs. I'd wager you could get in for next to nothing. Hopefully, this success leads to a call up to the league.
“They already signed another player, but they were sure they weren’t going to be able to give me a contract of what my status was compared to what other teams were offering,” Gaines said.

This is just awesome. Plain awesome.
I second that: plain awesome! I truly miss yelling "Sundiata" and "Massaquoi" after a big play. Awesome names, and awesome news.
Some NBA team has to sign him.
One of the few basketball Dawgs of the 2000's that deserves to play in the NBA. I hope he gets that call soon, because if anyone did more for us in the dark ages, I haven't seen them.
What about "the blockin Morrocan"?
Where we would have been without Idrissi!
Hell, as bad as the Bobcats are they should be calling his agent tomorrow...
Shoot, he could probably coach the Nets
I was going to take you up on your suggestion and pay a couple of bucks to go watch him in Austin. The tickets are actually pretty expensive, particularly in light of the fact that there's a top 5 college team in town to compete with. Maybe that's why I've never talked to anyone who has been to a toros game. Oh well.
Great news. Sundiata was a DGD, and a helluva lot of fun to watch play.
There was a good article on this very topic in yesterday's Red and Black.
Keep it up, and it's only a matter of time before he catches on an NBA roster. It'll likely be on a 10 day contract (which can begin to be offered on January 5), but after that it's all on Sundiata to stick. And after watching him, I think any coach who has him will love him, and he'll stay. If Mario West can last a couple years, Sundiata should be around a while.
lol, if you star at uga you MIGHT play in the NBA-DL one day! Keep working hard Trey Thompkins
This is awesome. It would be great for recruiting if Sundiata and Trey could develop into solid NBA players.
