Leslie is definitely a walking human highlight. every game he does something that is jaw dropping. he blocked that shot right in front of us and it wasn't until I saw the replay on the big screen that I realized how long he hung in the air. If he matures as a shooter... WOW! People buy some tickets and get to the game. NO MORE EXCUSES.
I don't understand this basketball thing very well. I've visited the country many times, but I haven't immersed myself in the culture enough to feel comfortable with the manner and language. Accordingly, I hesitate to offer any descriptive observations for fear of sounding foolish. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to that world last night and, even with the dower prognosis for the season, plan to spend more time there in the next few months. Hopefully, by mid-season, I'll have picked up enough broken phrases to participate in conversations in a meaningful way.
It was a really fun game to be at, but I'll say one thing, we have absolutely no traditions as a basketball fanbase that stick out. For some reason we do the 4th quarter fingerwave from football during a basketball game! And our best taunt? "Just like football." Now, against the nerds, that's great, but against other teams we play, I'd rather us start developing some real basketball traditions (Aside from Rocky, cause that guy's got to be graduating soon, I remember him as a freshman).
Also, we're waaaay too staid in our support. When I watch UNC, UK or Duke, the students are up the whole game yelling and screaming. We're content to sit and watch most of the game. At times, Steg was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and we were winning most of the night!
Are you a student? If so, that explains your point of view. We've been so bad for the past 6 years that all the students that knew how to really raise hell and what was expected of a student section are gone.
We're starting from Point A.
When Steg gets rocking that cement roof creates an echo chamber and it gets loud. Loud feeds on loud. Last night the fans kept waiting on the other shoe to drop and for the team to fall apart.
The noise will come in time. Right now, we need butts in seats. Mainly, we need the students to come back.
For every spectacular shot Leslie makes, he'll make at least 2 boneheaded out of control low percentage shots. Exciting player no doubt, but he makes me pull my hair out.
During Harrick's last year, Stegeman was extremely loud. I remember the excitement of rushing to get the best possible seats in the student section when they opened the doors.
It can happen again, and I believe it will under Fox.
blackertai, you have been there during the period Paul referenced. The lost years. Kinda like the GOP in the 70s in Congress or the Hebrews after leaving Egypt.

Awesome... getting UGA hoops highlights onto ESPN is good for the program. We need to get Leslie some more alley-oops.

Absolutely.
BTW, Paul, any chance I could talk you into moving to Wordpress?
The way blogger handles comments discourages me from commenting on your site more often than I do.

I've been here (at UGA) since 2003 (working on a masters). We've NEVER made a lot of noise, not since I was a freshman, at least.
The 4th Quarter hand wave thing is so stupid to do at hoops . . . never understood that.

I was in law school at UGA during the Tubby years. Back then, "The Tub" rocked pretty hard.
