Tech's new sportsmanship campaign

GTU has created a new sportsmanship initiative program called the Yellow Gold Standard. If there's one thing Tech is synonymous with, it would be sportsmanship and fair play...fan support... the smell of curry.
The Gold Standard's mission statement suggests raising awareness of sportsmanship at all Tech athletic events, "by increasing positive Yellow Jacket support; creating a sense of pride in Georgia Tech venues; events and traditions; promotion appreciation for the spirit of competition and providing a safe, healthy and respectful game day environment for all."
Newsflash! Tech Cheats Again!

Fans who sign the Gold Standard Pledge will have their name shown on the MegaJacketTron at the next home game. [ed. "MegaJacketTron"? Seriously? Stuff like this is why the rest of the planet mocks you] It appears from the Yellow Gold Standard web site that anyone can sign the pledge. For instance, just this morning "Jasper Was Down" signed the pledge, and shared some stories of bad sportsmanship in 1999. "Heywood Jablowme" signed right after Jasper. Perhaps you know some other people who would like to sign the pledge, and share a story about Tech fans?

Actually that is the VT/BC ACCCG in that photo. But your point is still understood as there were probably about the same number of Tech fans at that game as there were at the ACCCG's against Wake and Clemson.

As the Muslim Student Union President at the Institute, I find your mockery of this great institution of higher learning insulting. A jihad on Georgia!

And by legendary you mean not even participating in the game? Not that them being there would change the attendance.

Correction: Not Yellow, but Mustard Yellow.

I'm sure there's a caveat about UGA in this moronic attempt at upping their classless profile. Someone let me know when they remove the "piss on Georgia" urinal cakes from campus restrooms & "To hell with Georgia" from their fight song.

I won't hold my breath.

Reggie Ball signed just a few moments ago with:

I always knew how to count to 4, but I am secretly a Bulldog fan.

Go Dawgs.

I wonder if that means an end to the "Piss on Georgia" urinal cakes that their Athletic Department approved for use in Bobby Dodd.

I mean after all that, it's obvious the school is leading the charge in sportsmanship.

I f'n hate Tech.

MAYBE UGA WILL BE READY TO ADAPT SUCH A PROGRAM IN 25 YEARS!

ah yes, the legendary history of GTU sportsmanship. Was it the throwing of bottles and frozen fish at Notre Dame's players and coaches in 1978 that set the standard? Perhaps it was the game with FSU at the Joke by Coke a few years ago when one of the spindly nerds KO'd a referee with a liquor bottle. Or that game in about 2003 on a Thursday night where a bunch of GTU frat boys tried to pick some crap with the Maryland band as it marched to its buses.....and got their asses kicked. How many times in recent years have I seen GTU students, like monkeys flinging their own poop, throwing garbage and debris at the Redcoats as they march off the field after halftime? Or could it be that the tone is set by the testy little genius in residence, Paul "Mini-Skipper" Johnson, whose suggestion to GTU fans after UGA kicked his team's ass last fall, was to "punch them in the mouth" if anyone ragged them about it.

yeah, I am sure this will be a smashing success, one the rest of the NCAA will look to as a template for the rest of college football fans to emulate.

or, monkeys might fly out of my ass.

I'm glad they started this kind of campaign.

My personal favorite was a couple years ago when they stole VTech's uniforms, then lost to them in their own jerseys.

It has warmed my heart for years to be a Yellow Jacket. Georgia Tech is the ultimate authority of classiness, sportsmanship, and proper fan behavior towards others. I remember going to my first Georgia-Georgia Tech in the early 80s. What a fun day that was, I knew that it meant something special to be a Yellow Jacket when the football team came tearing through a banner that read "To Hell With Georgia, Cesspool of the South, Piss on 'em." I still get chills thinking of that moment.

I could go on and on, from our fans standing on the field shooting birds directly in the faces of opposing teams players...(as seen at the 40 second mark here)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JjMubGp35Rw

...to throwing water bottles at the referees like we did in 2006 against Notre Dame.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoBIByMa7dI

...or maybe pelting Notre Dame with fish and liquor bottles

http://www.ajc.com/blogs/content/shared-blogs/ajc/sportscolumns/entries/2006/07/16/techirish_serie.html

...to Herschel Walker having to come back into the game in 81 to avoid being pelted with ice and spit upon by our fans.

...or being the only fan base that feels the need to tear apart Georgia's hedges in the remote times that we do win in Athens.

It all just makes me very proud to wake up in the morning, look at the golden amber of the overnight toilet water and be reminded of what it means to be a true Jacket! I could go on and on, but we clearly know what it means to be good sports and am glad that the Ivory Tower will be getting a few more bricks this year with this program. Kudos to our AA for doing this, I am sure our fans will continue to behave in the best, most hospitable way towards our opponents.

Dick Hardwood just checked in -
I'll never forget my first encounter with some of that rabble from Athens. I was there for the annual UGA(y) cheat fest. We lost, like usual, but I got my revenge! I peed everywhere! In my seat, when a uga(y) fan barked in my face and scared the pee out of me. In the parking lot, when I saw several real, live girls that weren't requesting me to stick a dollar in their garter. And most gloriously, in a police car, after I was arrested for trying to pee on the cop car in the first place! GO JACKETS!!!

Herschel didn't come back into the '81 game because of ice being thrown at him on the sidelines -- he came back in to knock Robert Jaracz, the GTU linebacker, unconscious.
