File Under: Things that Make Paul Westerdawg Happy

This:
8. In all likelihood, the team will not head to the pool at the Ramsey Center this fall camp.
“I doubt we go to Ramsey,” Richt said. “This might be the first time that we’ve gotten all 29 practice opportunities in. We haven’t gotten there yet, but we’re on track.”
I'm ambivalent about the pool thing, honestly.  We didn't fall off the past few years because of going to the pool.  We fell off because we weren't totally and honestly committed to the single minded pursuit of playing the best football possible, from the AD to the managers, with the goal of humiliation and domination of all teams faced.

Going to the pool isn't the issue.  Going to the pool is a sign.  Not going is a sign, as well.  If this represents a dedication to that single minded pursuit, awesome.

I have an overwhelming sense of disdain and contempt for:
1. Not using all of the available practice time afforded to us.
2. Rewarding the team for mediocre results

When Richt would complain about the lack of an indoor practice facility, I would always get pissed primarily because we weren't using all the available practice sessions to start with.

And it's not just the pool thing. I think we have 3-5 sessions per year Coach Richt voluntarily wastes. Which is MORE than the amount we lose because of Weather.

It's one thing to miss a practice because the team is beat to pieces and needs a day off like the 2005 bye week between UF and AU when he took a battered squad horseback riding.

It's another to just walk away from a perfectly good opportunity to get better when you're not beat to pieces.

I'm glad to see that there's no swimming hole visit. If we walk out of Nashville undefeated and he wants to use a bye week practice session to go swimming. Great. Reward then for doing something.

Don't get in the paper and say "Today was a bad day of practice" and then say "Tomorrow we're going swimming" as was the case in prior years.

That was idiocy.

Think of it like how to use your vacation days. We can blow one in August on frivolity-now-bordering-on-entitlement, or save it for early January. In New Orleans.

Maybe he's going to take them riding with the horsey team again...

Couldn't have said it better myself.
