More Defensive Stats

More stats on the defense's dominance vs. the offense/special teams self inflicted gunshot wounds.
    Scoring Defense: 20.4 pts/gm
Scoring Defense MINUS 7 TDs allowed by Off/Special Teams: 14.3 pts/gm
That's a stunning 6.1 points per game in miscues. The damage comes from:
INT – 2 (SC and MSU)
    Fumble – 1 (SC)
KO Return – 2 (UF and Vandy)
Punt Return – 1 (Ole Miss)
    Fake Punt – 1 (SC)
More defensive stats can be found here and here.

The actual scoring defense (scores resulting while the defense is on the field vs any other play situation) is stark. I didn't realize it was that bad.

Basically, only one team, Boise State, did anything offensively against us. Certainly they are the only team to have anything resembling a fully successful offensive game against the D.

Before you start on the schedule, be sure to compare UGA's SOS (low 40s in most systems) with Bama's (high 30s), South Carolina's (mid 40s), Stanford's (low 40s), Michigan States (low 50s) or Wisconsin's (low 70s). The schedule is the schedule. We get our feces coagulated on special teams and we are a very, very good football team.

It'd be even lower if you took into account the 7 SC points off of a long fumble recovery and the 3 UF points off of a long KO return.

Another note is the defense hasn't really allowed a team to march up and down the field and socre on them.

Ole Miss scored on a trick play and special teams.

Tennessee was held in check until about 2 minutes left in the game.

Florida basically had one long pass play (that didn't account for any points) and special teams scored 1 TD and set them up for their last field goal.

Georgia's success is purely due to the ease of the schedule.
