Keith Marshall to UGA (Video)

Video from UGASports.com.

I really believe that there's nothing wrong with Isaiah Crowell that competition with a player of Keith Marshall's caliber can't fix.

Isaiah isn't the first freshman to struggle with toughness issues. Do you remember what Reggie Brown was like as a freshman? If he dropped a pass, he'd limp off the field or have to have the doctors and training staff come tote him off. Eventually, he found his toughness.

He's also not the first kid to come in with an attitude. Remember what Arnold Harrison was like in 2001 as a freshman? Getting into fights and being thrown out of games? Harrison turned into a solid leader for the program and ended up going from 1 star recruit to a spot with the Steelers for several years.

I'm thrilled to have Keith Marshall on board. His commitment is a good decision for Marshall, for UGA and for Crowell.

Having said all of that....the pressure is really on Coach Bryan McClendon. BMac did a great job of helping us secure the #1 running back in the country in consecutive years. Now, the Dawgnation eagerly awaits to see what he can make of this situation. Will his unit lead the team in arrests and shenanigans for the fourth straight year? Or will the RBs become a source of strength for the program?

What are your thoughts? What do you think is UGA's next highest priority for 2012 recruiting?

Need some O-linemen to make holes for these boys!

I have never been a great fan of these announcements. But if you are going to do one, this was the mark on the wall. Classy from the get go. Coach telling us about the young man and Keith spending less than a minute without all the silly switching of hats thing. Young man seems mature way beyond his age.

DBs and OL. Another DL or 2, and another LB or 2 is nice, but we have some good ones there. We could use a big time WR, but Conley, Bennett, and Mitchell are good enough. We have Ty Smith at TE. Adding quality depth to the OL, and some ball hawk DBs for when Smith, Rambo, and Commings are gone. Those are our 2 priority spots imo.

Let's not forget that the presumed #1 RB in 2012 is in the fold as well (Derrick Henry). Three in a row would be mighty impressive.

Remaining 2011 priorities:
1. CB
2. DL
3. OL
4. RB

Keith Marshall looks like a taller Tyson Browning. Show me a highlight where he lowers his head and invites contact - ain't happening. Much like Caleb King playing at a high school factory, a good o-line in high school can do wonders for a back, and Marshall looks to have benefited from a stellar o-line.

I'm not saying he won't succeed, but none of the film I've seen shows me that we've picked up anything close to the physicality that even a Thomas Brown had.

Just hope the kid can take some hits. The clips show himw just blowing by everyone. Can he bust thru a line? What do I know? Nothing.

Welcome to the team. He and IC can work out all spring together and bring some thunder and lighting!

As for the Crowell problems, I think this kid needs to grow up but I also think the severity of his injury was not communicated to the outside. After the second basketball game of the year, I almost hit him in the road behind the Steg. He step right out in front of me. But what was interesting was that he could barely walk. I remember being shocked that I hadn't heard anything about him being out at the time. It took him a good 30 seconds to slowing limp across the street. Just something to keep in mind. God knows what would have happened had I actually hit him.

Stirbaby -- No one including Keith thinks he's big enough to be an every down back as a true freshman.

You can put on muscle and weight. You can't make someone that fast or have that kind of change of direction or acceleration.

He needs about 15+ lbs of muscle, and he has plenty of time for that.

But the Tyson comparison is silly. Tyson never had the top end speed, and he's no bigger than an average blogger.

Matt - agreed. I'd feel MUCH better about next season if I saw 2 juco OT commits. We need a helluva lot more along the OL.

Need some CBs as well.

I also think IC injuries have been much worse then we have been led to believe. The coaching staff keeps all of that close to the vest. He has a month before the bowl game. It is good to give him some time to heal. I was wincing everytime he went in the championship game. It was obvious he could hardly plant his leg.

Tyson definitely had top end speed. He led UGA every year at the end of spring doing the 40 at something like 4.3ish. Marshall is reportedly faster, but to say that 4.3 isn't top speed is like saying that a Bentley isn't a high class luxury vehicle.

I'm glad that Marshall committed, but after hearing about the toughness that Gurley showed in a playoff game (playing despite suffering a high ankle sprain the week before) I want Gurley too.

Tyson Browning couldn't run 4.3ish if he was being chased by a gun toting lion. That's nonsense.
