Mark Emmert is Surprised

“While I understand the institution’s empathy for Kolton’s situation, I am surprised the institution would make a request. That surprise stems in part from the fact that Kolton tested positive in subsequent drug tests after his initial sanction, and the Drug Test Appeals Subcommittee did not impose additional sanctions . . . due to the “declining value” argument that supported the conclusion that there was no use of the banned substance. The exit test policy, however, which would require Kolton not to have elevated levels of the banned substance in his system prior to competing against other student-athletes who are competiting clean, is not something that can be appealed because doing so would undermine the purpose of the drug-testing program. . . . The fact remains that  Kolton currently hasthe presence of a banned substance in his system and will not be able to participate in NCAA competition until that presence drops to an appropriate threshold.”
Dean Wormer dropped the bomb on Kolton Houston. Now, if he'd merely taken a trip to Miami on an agent's dime, then lied about why he was there, but then paid the costs of it back, we'd be in business.

As it is, allowing him to compete against clean student athletes is just unfair. I guess the NCAA views elevated levels of a legally given drug with no further given drugs to be a much, much more serious offense than a father bidding off his son's services.

I just read this on another board that I frequent. It amazes me that the NCAA is punishing this student athlete and potentially affecting his future career for an incident that he allegedly had no knowledge of. Common sense should prevail here and the kid should be allowed to play. I'd say that regardless of what school he attends. Hopefully enough noise can be made to sway the NCAA in some way....

Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.

...Did I mention, Bullshit? NCAA's random 'hard-ass-ness' is infuriating.

Also, Bullshit.

Wait...I've got something in my pocket.........that's right:

BULLSHIT.

Guys - this is pretty clear cut. Houston has a banned substance in is body that exceeds the limits set by the NCAA. He either took them knowingly (which means our anger should be directed at him) or he took them unknowingly (which means our anger should be directed at the doctor who administered the PED and/or his parents who allowed the injection).

The NCAA still sucks and Emmert is still a pompous ass, but this is not a winning argument for UGA. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you would feel the same way if Kolton played at Auburn/Tech/Florida??
