Bowl and Conference Champion Projections

ACC Champ: Virginia Tech
- I see a scenario where VT goes undefeated, wins the ACC, and loses its bowl game.

Big 10 Champ: Penn State
- The get Wisconsin at home this week. A win there and they own every major tie breaker except with Michigan.

[Photo: Joe can't believe he's still winning either]

Big 12 Champ: Texas
- Like everyone else, I see them rolling into Pasadena.

Big East Champ: West Virginia
- How could we be this late into the season and most Big East members have only played 3 games?

SEC Champ: Georgia
- Shockley's back. Back from outer space. And Tuberville walked in to learn that with a sad look upon his face.

PAC-10 Champ: USC
- Well duh.

Bowl Projections Based on the above.
Rose: USC vs. Texas
Fiesta: Notre Dame vs. UCLA
Orange: Virginia Tech vs. Penn State
Sugar: Georgia vs. West Virginia

Why UCLA? They only get this slot if they are 10-1. Miami and FSU will have 2 losses by then. That really only leaves the SEC to give the BCS a second team. I predict Bama drops to either LSU or Auburn, and the SEC West champ drops to Georgia in the title game. What? Did you think a little setback in Jacksonville was going to ruin my entire outlook on the season?

SEC Bowls
Citrus: Alabama vs. Ohio State
- If Joe Pa can finish his career with a Big 10 Title this year, then great. If he can't win the Big 10, then I hope he finds a way to get Bama in the Citrus or Outback.

Outback: Florida vs. Wisconsin
- This matchup would bore me to tears.

Cotton: LSU vs. Texas Tech
- I would enjoy seeing LSU's defense beat up Mike Leach's QB. When Texas A&M rolled over and played dead vs. Iowa State last week it ended any shot of Bama fans getting their Plan B or C matchup for a bowl rumble.

Peach: Auburn vs. FSU
- Rematch of the cancellation game? If the SEC gets 2 BCS teams *and* if South Carolina beats Clemson, the Peach, SEC and ACC would definitely work to put Bobby Bowden in the Peach with the Head Ball Coach.

Music City:
Tennessee vs. Michigan
- "Well, I never thought I'd see you here?" said the coaches at the press conference.

Independence: South Carolina vs. Nebraska
- South Carolina fans travel well. They would travel especially well for this one. SC lost two heartbreaker to the Huskers in the mid-80s. They would love to see Spurrier could do to the new watered down Nebraska team.

Houston Bowl: ??? vs. Texas A&M
- I mean really. Does anyone care? The SEC won't fill its bowl slots.

Key Non-SEC or ACC Bowl of Interest:
Holiday:
Oregon vs. Colorado
- Rematch of the Fiesta Bowl a few years back.

(Photo: The Fiesta that year was Joey Hypesman's last good game)

ACC Bowls:
Gator:
Miami vs. Louisville
- Rematch of last year's thriller in Little Havana. This would actually be a pretty decent game.

Champ Sports:
Boston College vs. Missouri
- The bad news for the city or Orlando...BC fans don't travel. Period. They probably didn't purchase 3,000 tickets to the Music City Bowl vs. UGA a few years back. Tech fans would love to see a rematch with Nebraska here. But Nebraska gets both KSU and KU to finish the season.

As bad as the Huskers are, they likely will win both of those games. And GT will be banished to the worst bowl available if they finish with 3 losses to UVA (they never win at Hooville), Miami and UGA.

(Photo: This is what the parking lot of the Citrus Bowl would look like for a BC vs. Mizzou game. Only without the snow)

Meineke Car Care: Maryland vs. Pitt
- I had Clemson slotted here, but with the loss to GT last week combined with SC's win over the Vols. The Tigers look like a shaky bet for bowl eligibility.

Boise Bowl: Georgia Tech vs. Boise State
- Tech really needs to beat UVA. If they did, they could get bumped up to the Tire Bowl and watch Maryland take a beating to Boise or Fresno.

Key games for the ACC to fill its bowl slots:
UVA has to beat Georgia Tech
Clemson has to beat South Carolina
Maryland has to beat UNC and NCSU

I like the wrapup, but I have one other alternative. If Alabama were to lose to LSU and beat Auburn, they'd be 10-1 and likely out of the SEC title game. I could definitely see a BCS game taking them, ranked in the 5-10 range ahead of UCLA. Bama fans travel and they're hungry.

I could actually see that as well. The trick will be how far will Bama fall vs. how far will UCLA fall?

Georgia was slaughtered in the polls for losing to UF. Falling from 4th to 11th. And we have almost a month to build back.

If Bama were abused in the polls like they they would only have 2 game weeks to move back up.

UCLA losing on the final week as their only loss to an undefeated USC probably isn't going to get them slapped around. Right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

I could deal with seeing

Rose - USC vs. Texas
Fiesta - ND vs. PSU
Orange - VT vs. Bama
Sugar - UGA vs. WVU

Although, ideally in that scenario, they would send the SEC champ to the Orange,

What the hell is up with us being ranked BEHIND a 2 loss ND and a 2 loss Ohio State? I could understand us going to the end of the line of 1 loss teams but behind two 2 loss teams is ridiculous. Also anyone feeling like deja vu all over again (circa 2002) Are we going to see Massaqoui on a 70X Take Off to win the SEC East a la Michael Johnson?

I don't think I'm that off-base with thinking that UVA will end up 6-5, beating Temple and GT, giving VT a lot more than people think (it's at C-ville) and losing to Miami. No bowl?

You can't spell Music City without USC.
