Gamecock Lost and Found

It's a little known fact that the Athletic Department at South Carolina serves its players cereal on plates. Why? Because they lost all their bowls.

The Gamecocks were legendary losers of their first eight bowl games. But the program is making progress...of sorts. They have gone from losing bowl games to just losing the bowl trophy.

After the Liberty Bowl, the SC coaches and administrators accidentally left the game trophy back in Memphis. Luckily for the program, they also left one of their players in Memphis. The State has the story of how senior long snapper Scott Morgan and three of his buddies saved the 80 pound trophy. The story involves a long road trip and of course a stop a Hooters in Conyers, GA.

It's pretty easy to see how something like this happens. It's not like they're experienced in bringing home hardware.

My only question...did the Athletic Director have to move any of their Preseason National Champion trophies to make room for the Liberty Bowl mini-monument?

The group stopped once — at a Hooter’s in Conyers, Ga. — to watch the second half of the Chick-fil-A Bowl between Georgia and Virginia Tech. Morgan, a native of North Augusta, said he left the trophy in the car, covering it with blankets and jackets, rather than exposing it to possible harm at the hands of Georgia fans.

Oh, come on! Now that's just effing ridiculous. Why would we commit a felony just to get our hands on a trophy from a bowl that isn't even as good as the one we actually went to? That's like LoJacking your Honda Civic because you don't want your Volvo-driving neighbor to mess with it.

i'm sure they'll give the kid a parade real soon.

south carolina is always giving parades for goofy accomplishments. the basketball team got a parade after winning the nit.

south carolina fans are the most low expectationless fans ever.

I really expected the punch line to involve the team eating Cap'n Crunch out of it when they finally got it back home.

I love how even the Columbia paper begins the article with "For a school with so few bowl trophies". Yep, the bar is set PRETTY low over there.

I love how he admits they considered drinking beer out of the trophy.

You can't tell me that 3 college guys couldn't lift 80 lbs. to let a buddy drink.
