License Plates, Lady Vols, and Burlington Coat Factory Salesmen

A few oddball stories caught my eye today. First, the Georgia Legislature is again embroiled in controversy about college athletics. This time its those logos on state license plates. The noble lawgivers in the House voted overwhelmingly to stop selling Georgia license plates with out-of-state school logos on them. This move is the only logical choice after UF alums got Gator license plates approved by the Georgia department of motor vehicles. If Florida alums can have a Georgia plate, then it's time to shut the whole operation down. The ban extends only to those schools in states that won't allow Georgia schools on their license plates, which is basically everywhere but Tennessee. This whole thing is silly, since you can basically get any logo you want on your Georgia license plate. The state just wants your $25 fee. Is it me or does the Georgia legislature just not know how to let things go? I mean I get it and I guess I like the spirit of it all, but don't those guys have other things to do?

Candace Parker, Lady Vol superstar, is skipping her senior year to go pro. I think that's a first for women's basketball, but I'm not sure. Is the WNBA that lucrative?

Lastly, if you want to be the AD at LSU, please submit a resume. It doesn't matter if you have no experience in sports administration or even upper management. Besides the actually qualified applicants, the Baton Rouge Advocate reports that a "mortgage loan officer in Georgia," a "self-employed fitness coach," and a "former Burlington Coat Factory salesman" have already applied for the job.

Any self respecting Georgian who thinks that out of state schools should be on our STATE issued plates should be tried for treason.

Thank you Senator Johnson and Rep. Fleming for standing up for the citizens of Georgia.

Personally, I like the idea of UF fans paying extra to have their logo on the tag. In fact, it should be required of every UF fan, so that we can know who not to let into traffic, who to cut off, who to 'accidentally' bump your car door into in parking lots, etc. And the revenue is okay, too, what with all the sales tax money we Georgians have offered up in Florida...

C'mon Quinton McDawg. You should be defending the home state.

I think it's a big deal. Damn, if I want stinking Florida fans, Auburn fans or any other state football logo on a GA tag if we can't be on their tag

Hell, fair is fair. Florida, Alabama and no telling how many other states don't allow this for the Georgia Bulldogs.

And by the way the "any logo you want" on a Georgia tag is all Georgia related College Plates.

HOOAH! I'm happy about this.

Odd move by Parker. It must be for the love of the game, because she's gonna be taking a hefty paycut going from the Vols to the Sparxx.

(Hey-ooo)

Under WNBA rules, players can only leave early if they have a degree in hand, which Parker either does or will.

Speaking of bizarre, Tech's game was rained out tonight. Tech's basketball game.

Parker is giving up her last year of eligibility, not her senior year. She's in her fourth year aa a UT student now. She sat out her freshman year with a knee injury and is on track to graduate with her class in May. I join the rest of the SEC in wishing her the best...far away from here.

I disagree with Jason to this extent: the legislature deserves no praise for this action, because they created the problem in the first place. Now, they've compounded the embarassment to the state of Georgia by the childish way they've handled the decision to pull the tags (the right decision, handled all wrong).

Eric Johnson and Glenn Richardson are public embarassments to the state of Georgia, as bad in their own special way as Cynthia McKinney was in hers. And I'm fairly conservative. I never thought I would miss Tom Murphy, but the whole pack of them have taken legislative buffoonery to a new, disturbing level. Bring back George Busbee, please. We need a lot fewer showhorses and a lot more workhorses under the Gold Dome.

AllSchool,
The most idiotic, stupid, vapid statement ever made on this website was you comparing Cynthia McKinney to Eric Johnson and Glenn Richardson. You may dislike these men, but don't compare them to the worst legislator the state and possibly nation has ever had.

So, will there be a new law to prevent all these "illegal" tags from going on the front of the vehicle? Guaranteed that's where most of them wind up...

I don't mind us allowing tags with out-of-state schools on them. Seems kind of embarrassing to me that your school is in such a great place that you have to go out of state to find work after graduation. I realize that there are some out-of-staters no matter what school and area you're looking at but the number of SEC and ACC area schools whose graduates have to move to Altanta to find work is staggering.

Dear Mrs. Eric Johnson, errrr, Anon 8:46...

Eric Johnson and Glenn Richardson ARE just as idiotic as Cynthia McKinney, only in a different way.

Your political acumen doesnt seem to be any better than your reading comprehension. I "may dislike these men"? Yeah. I may not want to slam my fingers in my car door, either.

The good thing about Cynthia is that she was so hopelessly out of the power loop that she couldnt do any real harm. Johnson, Richardson, and their minions, on the other hand, are in a position to do substantial harm while the legislature is in session. That's what scares the hell out of me. Well, that and sycophants like you who think those nimrods running things is a great idea.

Maybe instead of great ideas like annexing part of Tennessee or getting into pissing matches about license plates, these captains of public service should, I dont know....actually work on something important?

thanks for playing.

And don't forget, it's an election year, so Glenn and co. have decided that, despite what the MAJORITY OF WHAT GA VOTERS WANT, we can't have any laws to allow Sunday alcohol sales on the books.

And the less said about Richardson's property tax issues the better...

I'm all for it if it pisses off Florida.

AllSchool,
You make bad assumptions. You wrote what you wrote. Grow a pair and admit that it was a dumb thing to say. No sychopant here - just telling it like it is.

Admit that it was a dumb thing to say? Why would I do that? Because a second rate parrot of the legislative line like you doesnt like it?

Tell you what, sparky. If you dont like your political idols being compared to an acknowledged legistlative embarassment, tell them to quit acting like they left their brains back in a drawer at home. In fact, you might consider taking that approach yourself. What was it Harry Truman said? They say I'm giving them hell, but I just tell the truth and they think it's hell. Quit drinking the Kool Aid. Eric and Glenn are morons, and their "legislative accomplishments" scream that more loudly every day.

Good day, sir.

AllSchool who needs a drink,
You're doing that assuming thing again. I never said that I worshipped those guys. All I said was that you were wrong by comparing them to tsunami of all dumbasses, Cynthia McKinney.
And yes, those men are very dangerous in their own right, whereas CM was more stupid than dangerous.
Ok - agreed.

I suggest a cold Spaten Optimator, on draught in possible.

i haven't lived in ga. since 1995, but i don't remember a conspicuous or large # of uf alums/fans, at least in the atl metro area. has that changed?

holy crap--twlocp is going to be hyped to the max next year.

on candace parker: no, the wnba is not lucrative--many players who aren't the league stars have to supplement their earnings by playing in europe and elsewhere. parker stands to earn big endorsement money that will far eclipse what even her wnba contract can pay.

I'm with Hunkering Hank. And those that think our Reps. should do something better with their time, well I look at it this way. These other states had to take the time to do the same darn thing. So what gives?
