Dawgs Land A Big One From Florida

Quick. Name the last big offensive recruit Richt & Co. plucked out of Florida. Tony Wilson? Mike Moore? Those guys were considered good players, but nothing like shiny new commitment Aaron Murray, who pledged to the Dawgs this morning. Murray is a top quarterback recruit out of Tampa who was named first team All-State as a junior. He was also the first quarterback invited to the Elite 11 QB camp this year. Murray picked the Dawgs over finalists Florida and UCLA, but the guy had offers from seemingly every other national program. He's a midyear grad, so if the commit holds, he'll be on campus for spring practice next year.

The general consensus is that this is a huge, huge pick up for Georgia. Not only do they grab a top flight quarterback, a position the Dawgs need to sign this year, but we get one from Florida's back yard. It's not often that UGA goes heads up with the Gators for a Florida guy and the Dawgs land him. It happened today.

Here's a rather lengthy highlight package.

He looks mobile enough to escape a rush, accurate, and releases the ball in a flash. He may not have Stafford's or Mettenberger's gigantic arm, but he's got enough to hit the big plays. The knock on Murray is his height. He's only 6'1". Not to put too much pressure on the kid (but, come on, this is recruiting and it wouldn't be complete without ridiculous comparisons and laughable hyperbole), but UGA's done well with short quarterbacks.

Thanks for the Aaron post. I give you props for this site. Finally, I have found some legit Dawg fans!

2008, wow. For the first time in my life the off-season seems too short. I still can't even watch Auburn Blackout video without crying. My voice is still gone from screaming at UGA fans to stand up and lose it (at Coach Richt's request on the sideline) in New Orleans.

The schedule is nasty no doubt.

Hopefully some of you soft UGA fans will read these words...if you attend a UGA game in 2008 (home or away) your voice should be gone until Tuesday morning. I'm so tired of these "old dawgs" sitting around watching the game like they are at a Braves game or something. STAND UP AND YELL!! It hurt me sitting in the Tennessee section last season. It wasn't the heckling so much as realizing that Sanford will never rumble like that place did that horrible Saturday. Until EVERYONE rocks it like we did against Auburn we will never win a National Championship. It's up to Dawg fans in 08.

Thanks

Now let's go and land Murray's TE Orson Charles (also a four star) of Gator trophy breaking fame

I watched the video... Nice touch on most passes and plenty of zip on the balls that needed zip. Creates well on the run - always finding the open man (unless all his receivers were open.) That was a talented group of receivers to boot.

Great news for the Dawgs!

one thing i noticed was that even when hes scrambling hes always looking downfield. Which is excellent.

Zeier great stats, 0 championships.

Here is an argument starter: Who is the best QB ever to wear a UGA uniform?

Tarkenton certainly had a great NFL career and won 1 SEC championship.

Belue was the QB on the MNC team, but "great"? Not so sure I am willing to put him there. (He also has 2 SEC championships).

Zeier--stats are out of this world, but his record against UT, UF is poor and no titles.

Greene---1 SEC title and broke many records at UGA including many of Zeier's. All time winningest QB in I-A.

Now I am keeping this fairly modern as comparing across eras is tough as the QB position has changed. Of course, what does one value more records or winning?

I am going to go with Greene. Although at the end of Stafford's career I have the right to amend this!

geez. He's got a great arm but someone teach that kid to hit the tight end on those roll outs.

We don't win many recruting battles in Fla. They always manange to steal some of our best, so this is a great get. Tarkington was the best and the smartest. He won the state title over Valdosta, won the Orange bowl and played in several super bowls. I'm one of those old grads and I still eat, sleep and breath red and black.
