Fun "Hate Tech" Factoid of the Day

Image: Hipple

I've pointed out on numerous occasions that Georgia Tech hasn't beaten UGA without Ralph Friedgen on the Tech sidelines since 1985. Overall, they are 6-28 without Big Ralph since 1964 when Vince Dooley came to Georgia. With Friedgen, are 5-4. That's of course counting the years played with ineligible, knuckle draggers participating at 10 positions.

This begs the question...why didn't they back a dump truck full of money and donuts up to Coach Value Size's office on the Maryland Campus in 2001? For that matter, why didn't they just hire Ralph as the head coach in 1995? He was clearly the brains of that O'Leary / Ralph combo. Honest George went 0-6 in '94 as an interim. What was the point of keeping him for the '95 season?

On another fun statistical front, we all know that Mark Richt is 7-0 against Tech during his tenure as a head coach. Did you also realize that his nine wins at FSU as an assistant bring his career total as a coach to a healthy 16-0. (Don't worry, I checked with Reggie Ball. So the math should be right)

In other words, none of Richt's children have ever lived in a world where their father has lost to Georgia Tech. All children should be so blessed.

Keep the anti-tech updates coming! Everybody should love hating on the nerd herd.

PWD, I almost wet myself this morning. I shouldn't be laughing this much prior to my coffee. Your last comments about CMR's kids' world were hilarious.

This factoid of the day is just as good.

RE: Bring a Girl to Tech
One EE student asked if a robotic girl he had made would qualify.
Furthermore, if this is a success, you can expect Bring a Native English Speaker to Tech in the near future.

Hilarious. Bring A Girl To Tech deserves a front page post of it's own.

As always, very nice work Paul. I wrote a letter "To Tech" at www.bighairyblawg.com, and while I tend to be even more mean-spirited toward our opponents, it warms my heart to know you also care.

You can't dominate a team like this and then claim they're a quality game on your schedule. The Az State game is important b/c Uga needs to start scheduling a real OOC opponent and not just hide behind "we have to play Tech." That's like Bama saying "we have to play UAB" and calling it a rivalry, or Tennessee saying "we have to play MTSU." Tech is just brutal, and these stats obviously bare that out.

Words can not express my gratitude to CMR that my son does not know a world where losing to Tech happens.

Of course, since it's been damned near 20 years since the record books say we lost, I've almost forgotten that pain...

I was at the 1957 game when Theron Sapp scored the wining, drought breaking touchdown to break a 7 year loosing streak to the insects. I have hated tech for more years than anyone on this blog. Go DAWGS

I agree..I have already sent this out to everyone I know, but it deserves front page on the world wide web. haha

just a little side note... i was watching "The Price is Right" yesterday and there was a group there from Arizona State. The girls were all looking real good. The one girl that made it on stage was so fine. Maybe this is what to expect when we head out there.

Nice try, jackass. How about getting your English correct first next time. THEN, worry about the math portion. Or is that too much for you to focus on at once?

Insert UGA insecurity over meaningless degree ... right ... now

My children have also never lived in a world where UGA has lost to Tech but I have children in the 2 to 4 range.

I have a cousin who was born in 91. He was in high school the first time the Braves didn't win their division. I always thought that was kind of cool. If my kids can be that old before UGA loses to Tech, that would be awesome.

Always a classic..

I have a great idea for a sticker a la the "W-The President". "L-The Continuing Tech Tradition"

My name is Jacob. I won't hide behind "anonymous" like the low-life Tech coward.

My freshman year at UGA I watched the following atrocity take place:

Beating Tech never gets old and is always the perfect ending to Thanksgiving weekend.

This classic comment of superior academic standing compared to UGA is becoming more and more irrelevant. According to US News and World Report rankings your "Institute" is ranked FIFTH in the ACC and you are not even the highest ranked school in the city of Atlanta.

Meanwhile, UGA is climbing up said rankings as Tech is actually slipping.

+1 to the Tech Anon who busted me on the typo.

That said....

Pretty big difference between my typo, and Reggie, Chan and Nix not being able to count to 4 in front of 92,000 people.

Fescue -- Per the NCAA, I'm not sure that photo actually exists anymore.

It helps to read your US News and World Report left to right, top to bottom. After re-reading, you'll notice Tech hasn't slipped at all. #35 vs #59. Congrats on your "climb" to #59 with Rutgers and Pittsburgh. Who said we were superior to all the ACC? Sorry the ACC has legitimate, highly ranked colleges.

Unknown said...

Anon - #35 is a good spot. I guess.

But with the pompous ramblings of the Tech nation, you would think you were ranked somewhere between Harvard University and the Christ-like Intelligence Factory.

One day your inflated sense of self and delusions of grandeur will match your rankings. Well...assuming 30 of the schools ranked above you go out of business.

As for UGA, we're proud of our progress. We continue to rise, and that's a good thing.

When Tech sells it's Season Tickets, do they come with 2 Hot Dogs and a T-Shirt that says,

"#35 Baybee!"

"Bring a girl to Tech Day", "4 Tickets, 4 hot dogs and 4 Cokes and please show up to one of our games", discounted tickets to Hurricane Katrina victims, Thursday Night Lights, $5,000 bonus for the coach that beats UGA, playing two 1-AA teams in the same year, etc.

What a tradition!

Techies are just mad that this year they drop from their normal spot at being the 9th most important game on their rival's schedule down to 10th behind Arizona State.

Having said that, they sure do make it fun to pick on the Joke by Coke.

Just a small defense on their decision with Friedgen, you have to remember that Fridge is a University of Maryland alum. Coaching at College Park is, in a sense, going home. The Fridge is loved at Maryland, even though his teams have not exactly been as successful as they should be. It is a far better situation than if he stayed at that cesspool on North Avenue!

If Georgia fans are the ones who are "insecure" over their degrees, how come it's always the Tech fans rushing over here to remind us how highly ranked their school is?

LOL
Only a tech fan would take pride in being the 35th best at something. 35th is pretty par for the course to a tech football fan.

Reminds me of another stat: Tennessee hasn't won an SEC title without David Cutcliffe on the sideline sine 1969.
