2008 GSB All-SEC Team

The GSB is voting in Garnet and Black Attack's inaugural All-SEC team poll.  They'll have the results up soon over at their site.  Robert Ayers and Charles Scott may not be consensus guys, but they both looked awesome against us.  (But, by that criteria, Jonathan Dwyer should be going to the Pro Bowl.)

QB - Timmy Tebow - Florida
RB - Knowshon Moreno - Georgia
RB - Charles Scott - LSU
WR - A.J. Green - Georgia
WR - Percy Harvin -Florida
T - Andre Smith - Alabama
T - Micheal Oher - Ole Miss
G - Herman Johnson - LSU
G -Anthony Parker - Tennessee
C - Antoine Caldwell - Alabama
TE - Jared Cook - South Carolina

DE - Robert Ayers - Tennessee
DE - Rahim Alem - LSU
DT - Terrence Cody - Alabama
DT - Peria Jerry - Ole Miss
LB - Brandon Spikes - Florida
LB - Rennie Curran - Georgia
LB - Dominic Douglas - Mississippi State
CB -D.J. Moore - Vanderbilt
CB - Trevard Lindley - Kentucky
S - Eric Berry - Tennessee
S - Rashad Johnson - Alabama

P - Tim Masthay - Kentucky
K - Colt David - LSU
KR - Brandon James - Florida

Who have I overlooked?

Quinton

Quite frankly, I find it hard to put any Tennessee offensive linemen on the team. I know this is a "rep" position, but not sure Parker should make it.

You know - I was reading through that list ... and the SEC really was down this year. Just not the collection of talent on the 1st team like you'd normally see (other than at OT). Normally 1st team All SEC looks like an NFL mock draft or something, but there's a lot of "good college players" and just a couple of standouts this year.

I don't think you can put Harvin over Jones.
Maybe Harvin gets a special position, but he's listed as an RB on the Florida roster, and he ran the ball 61 times versus 35 catches.

In addition to his position, I personally think Percy's overrated. I can't say I've ever seen a game where he was the difference-maker; Florida lost the game that he had the most total yards and touches this year.

Harvin's 2008 touches:
Hawaii DNP
Miami 17
Tennessee 8
Mississippi 23
Arkansas 9
LSU 8
Kentucky 3
Georgia 7
Vandy 12
SC 14
Citadel 5
FSU 6
Alabama DNP

That's an average of 9.6 touches per game. Moreover, I think UF is just fine without him. Who knows what he would do without SuperGod at QB, but right now he's a waterboy for The Man, as is everyone else on the UF offense--they're all little moons around the star.

Jones was much more an impact player for UA, I think, and is actually a wide receiver.

You know, there are not many offenses out there could break, well, 0, against that defensive lineup. Spikes and Curran? Can you say, "Third string QB out with an injury?"

And, most may disagree with me here - and I could care less if they do; if this were a "NFL mock draft”, Stafford would be the QB. Tebow is a program specific QB. I honestly do not think that he is going to do anything near what he has accomplished in college, in the NFL. I think he is going to be in for a sick surprise when he hits his first NFL defense. If he leaves this year (which I have no idea of his plans?) I could see him going to Detroit, and Stafford going to Kansas City (which would put Stafford under Chan Gailey; Ewwww - nerds). Just my thoughts…

And a side question, for anyone who may know or have an opinion:

Beginning with two not-so-likely hypotheticals, and one supposed to be solid fact hypothetical (I’ll let you guess which is which),

If Will Muschamp decided that he did not want to eventually take over Texas, and decided for sure that he was not going to Auburn, and if, for some ungodly reason, Willy Martinez was fired or quit from UGA – what would the chances be of Muschamp coming to be DC at UGA? Just wondering; I do not think that Martinez is in trouble or anything – or wanting to leave, but IF, what do you guys think?

His stats weren't off the charts this year due to some injuries and having to play with 19 different QB's, but Kenny McKinley is the best WR in the SEC.

Unfortunately, Berry and Johnson were so good that you couldn't include Derek Pegues. Pegues will be a spectacular pro.
