More on the Defensive Ends

Basically, anything I read positive about the defensive ends makes me incrementally that much less uncomfortable with this season. Today's article focuses on Rod Battle's progress. Realistically, you can't tell much about him whipping our second team offensive tackles in practice....except that it means he's healthy.

A big change from last year.

So true. Battle seems to have been overlooked when talking about DE's. He had, what, a neck injury most of last year?

I hope opposing coaches overlook him, too.

Battle's been around the ball and in the backfield when's he's been healthy. He was a contributor on the DL in the 2nd half of 07 when the DL played so well. He never got on track last year. The other end is of far greater concern.

I hopeful that a strong push up the middle from the DTs may force alot of QBs into the waiting arms of our DEs if they can keep contain and not get out of position.

The 3rd string inemen for UGA gave up 24 sacks last year so is Battle whipping the back-up linemen that saw significant SEC playing time last year at a level consistent to opposing defenses? UGA's second-string linemen might see playing time at other schools including ones on UGA's schedule. A reach based on stats--but a point to factor in regarding expectations for Battle this season.

GO DAWGS!

I had the same thought. Vince Vance and Justin Anderson are currently running with the 2nd team OL. Or are they running as subs for the 1st team during scrimmages?

Anyone else watch the '07 oSu game lately? Battle was all over their east/west stuff.

the '07 OSU game was Battle's best game of his career. he did play very well that night, but it's been few and far between as far as those type of performances go for him. it's time for Battle to do it game in and game out. no excuses.

I think Justin Houston comes back and makes his presence known. He's our playmaker at DE.

Add in Longo and Ball once the season starts, and we'll have 9 scholarship DEs. Probably 10 or 11 next year.

Ball isn't practicing because of an injury and I wonder if Longo can see the depth chart from where he's standing.

I'd wager the rotation will mainly be:

Battle, Houston, Dobbs, Washington, Washington and Montez. But that's just me guessing.
