Well Coached. All Heart. Dawgs Give Cats Scare

When you're watching this Georgia team play basketball, forget about "moral victories." Instead, think about improvement and progress. Think about week to week and month to month momentum. Are we getting better?

On Saturday, the Georgia Bulldogs went into Lexington to face an undefeated Kentucky team with an overwhelming talent advantage. The Wildcats were a 21 point favorite coming into the game, but the Dawgs were only two points down with 1:05 remaining. In fact, we were up by 11 points in front of 24,000 fans and three very loving blue striped refs.

It was progress, and it was incredibly impressive. Our guys played their hearts out, and they showed that they are most certainly getting better.

After the game, Coach Fox talked about our ability to play with UK saying:
"The members of the media voted us unanimously as the last-place team," Fox said to the media after the game. "If you guys are right, then this league is really balanced because Kentucky’s very, very good."
He's right. If we can play like we did Saturday...and cut the turnovers way down...we're going to be competitive with a lot of SEC teams.

Oh..and ESPN SportsCenter was right. Leslie's dunk over Cousins was the sickest dunk you'll see all year.

We have 8 home games left on the schedule. All of them are SEC contests beginning this Wednesday against the Ole Miss Rebels. Get out and support the DAWGS! Coach Fox is going to do great things with our program. Coach Fox and the players deserve our support!

Finally, a real hoops coach. Hope some blue chippers take notice.

I am officially on board now. I like the energy Mark Fox brings to the team. You don't have to be a student of the game to see that he can coach with the best of them.

I haven't been to a basketball game since I graduated 4 years ago. I now plan on making it to a few games. Let's rock the Steg.

That game was Hellu fun to watch, even if we didn't win. I was yelling, screaming and jumping up and down. And that was one wicked dunk!

Wow! What a performance against the mighty Big Blue. Luckily for UK, they decided about 3/4 of the way through the game that they better show up.

Hats off to CMF and his boys for a heck of a gutsy performance in hostile territory. Let's hope this is a sign of continued progress and only a glimmer of what's to come.

When the season is over, regardless of the actual record that we have, we are going to know that this team balled. They are clearly making improvement and will give some teams fits before it is all over barring some catastrophic injury. With a little more depth, we might expect to win a lot by the end of the season. I am convinced that Fox can teach. I just hope we can keep him after we start winning.

This team has made monstrous improvement. The early season losses may keep the Dawgs from getting an NCAA bid, but, based on the way the team has played its last 5 or 6 games, it's a tournament caliber team.

There's still a ton of work to be done, though. Besides the turnovers, the team gave up way too many offensive rebounds to Tech and Kentucky. Fix either the rebounding or the turnovers, and this team would have beaten UK.

Given the progress the team has made, I have no doubt Coach Fox will get those problems addressed. Let's hope the Dawgs can put together enough wins in the SEC to make the tourney.

Here's hoping that the athletic association can do something about opening more ticket windows for students. The reason the game was less well-attended than it should have been was that only 1 ticket booth was open for students, and the 3 lines for each window at it were to the street in FREEZING cold. I watched a ton of people get fed up with the 45 minute wait and wander off to warmer locals. Here's hoping they fix this problem, because there were plenty of students TRYING to go to the Ga. Tech game that couldn't get in.

I am going Wednesday. No way I'm missing our SEC home opener against a ranked Ole Miss after a road performance like THAT. It was awesome.

In answer to your question, YES, I think we're constantly getting better. Early on we lose to Wofford, then we beat Illinois, then Georgia Tech, and come ever so closely to toppling the #3 team in the country... I say our chances of beating our our pre-season prediction are pretty good.

The best part is after Calapari gets Kentucky put on probation this game will actually go down as a "W"

I just clicked on "The Dunk" link...and playing in the background on my stereo was "Hold on, I'm comin'" by Sam and Dave.

How appropriate!
