I am not a cynical person, nor am I someone who thinks that emotions are for wimps. But are y'all serious? I think this is the most awkward column ever written in the history of journalism:

"But I know you're in a better place now. And I know what you're saying, too.

Rammer Jammer, Yellow Hammer, We're in heaven, Alabama!

Have fun up there tonight.

I love you,

Andy"

Andrew,

"I am not a cynical person"

You sure about that?

I see your point PWD, but the meladrama is a bit much. OK , so Andy lost his mother (as did I, she was 52) and Alabama won the game. But every team that wins the NC has the same story enveloping a lost mom, dad, grandparent, etc. What makes Andy so special?

Is it b/c he's a scumbag Gator? No. It's b/c he's an SI writer and gets to write his choice of topics. Otherwise we'd neber hear about his mama.

This is a must skip, not a must read. And to all Gators.....BIH.

It's been three years now, but I still get "dust in my eyes" at some point during every home game because my parents aren't beside me. They're still living, mind you, but they stopped renewing the season tickets they'd held since before I was born. I spent close to 40 seasons sitting next to them (except for the seven I was in school), and it's just not the same without my folks. I fully expect a day will come when you might see a middle-aged man crying openly in Sanford's Section 130 for no apparent reason, and certainly not due to anything in the game. Just know I'll have experienced a significant personal loss.

So, no. Not awkward. We could spend some time discussing why the hell college football should carry such sentimentality, but what's the good of that? It does.

Alright. You're positive references to the Tide have been up for awhile. Can we keep the topic moving along? How about Saban not taking a knee with 1:40 left. I think he wanted the score to look better than the Tide played.

Richt>Saban,

I think he wanted to win.

I agree. Nothing special about that article. That should be shared with his family, not the rest of us. We all have our personal stories, and that's why they mean so much to us, they're personal.

Definitely a must skip.

Paul, good article and good read by Andy Staples. Those who disagree lack a dose of genuineness. Probably the same folks who BOO in Sanford Stadium. Let the guy share a moment. You don't like it, don't read it, but don't be a jerk. Lewis Grizzard used to write columns like that all the time, part of what made him great. Chill out with the negativity.

An opinion can't be wrong. We are entitled to ours just like you are entitled to yours. Chill out with YOUR negativity.
