I'm a sucker for stuff like this. I am one of those that sings the Alma Mater during pregame/postgame, so this is pretty cool to me.

Why Tim Tebow is unlikable to me
First, let's get this out of the way. I don't doubt Tebow's sincerity or his Christianity. There are plenty of reasons to believe he is sincere in his beliefs and lives the life he preaches. While I enjoy the pop culture aspect of 'Tebowing,' I think it is a sincere expression of his personal appreciation for the gifts God has given him.
With that said, I don't like him. Even if he had played for Georgia, I would have found him hard to stomach, as a news story. Of course, if he'd played for Georgia, he might just be another pretty good TE to have come out of Athens, but I digress. The reason?
His efforts come across as phony and for a particular effect. The constant hypeing by ESPN, other media, and Thom Brennaman don't help.
If you want to see what someone who does things to help people because he wants to help, not because there is a media bump for it, but because he wants to help people, go see this. Memphis' QB, Jacob Karam, has been going to St. Jude in Memphis and just doing whatever. Moving boxes. Sitting with families. Playing the piano so child leukemia patients and their families can have a few fleeting minutes of joy.
Everyday Superman stuff.
I know there are things Tim Tebow cannot help. He can't help ESPN and others doing what they do. His family and his media people can. Jacob Karam, however, doesn't have a compelling back story. He didn't get home schooled. His father didn't do high visibility mission work. He isn't a charismatic blue eyed kid. He wasn't born of a seeming miracle.
Yet, Jacob Karam is doing it right. And for the right reasons. I'm not saying Tim Tebow is doing things for the wrong reasons. I'm sure its possible I'd like Tim Tebow the person, with the glaring exception of his college choice. Tim Tebow, the persona, is wholly unlikable.

Twenty Years Ago Today
Exactly 20 years ago to the minute, my dad took me to my first Georgia Football game. The Bulldogs faced the Baylor Bears to kick off the start of the Ray Goff Era in Sanford Stadium, and I'm pretty sure we sat in Section 302.
I distinctly remember three things about that game.
- 1. The hugeness of the stadium
2. Calling the Dawgs
3. That Ray apologized for not scoring more points

Great Missed Free Throws
These paint fumes are making my eyes water. It must be that. Couldn't be that I'm sniffling at my desk with my door shut after reading a story about two missed free throws. I must be allergic to something. Sniff.

Auburn Blogger Hates Freedom, Liberty and Puppies

Earlier this week, I posted a note regarding Auburn's Brad Lester and his defiant, screaming claim that the Auburn Tigers would maul Georgia to tiny pieces and poop out our remains like so many undigested bits of walnut candy.
Jerry Hinnen (a known communist and felon*) at the Auburn blog "Joe Cribbs Car Wash" felt that I might have overstated Lester's comments by using the word "prediction" to describe the original quote in question. Hinnen scolded me saying:
"But is [Lester's comment] a prediction, a guarantee, or any kind of promise? No, it is not. If we win, Lester says. We should beat both teams, he claims. If and should do not mean the same thing as when and will. (snip)
Unfortunately, this didn't keep Paul Westerdawg from curiously titling his post in response. (snip)
It's the mainstream media's job to take athletes' quotes and stretch their meanings beyond the breaking point of truth in the exalted holy name of Hype. I suggest you let them handle it."
Well sir, I would like to defend myself. Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief.
The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules of journalistic integrity or took liberties with the English language.
We did.
But if a blogger can't make hyperbolic and barely substantiated claims against his rivals while posting in his boxer shorts and drinking bourbon by the fist full, then haven't the terrorists already won?
And furthermore, you can't hold one blog responsible for the collapse of the integrity of the entire blogosphere. Why if you do, shouldn't we also blame the entire Internet?
And if the entire Internet is to blame, then isn't this an indictment of our American society in general?
I put that to you Jerry Hinnen. You can question my blog, but I won't sit here and read your comments bad mouthing the United States of America.
Gentlemen. I'm leaving.

ESPN's Story on the Richt Family
While I'm catching up from the weekend and unpacking, enjoy this piece from ESPN College Gameday on the Richt family. We're very luck to have their family as part of the Dawg Nation.
Very lucky.

Poll Results: Dawg Men Fear Not the Tear

Last week we asked, "Have you ever cried after a UGA win? Turns out that 63 percent of the 460 people who responded said "yes" in one form or another. It appears that my readers do have a softer side. Here are the responses (totals don't = 100% due to rounding):
- 37% - No Damn Way!
- 29% - Yes. But only a single tear.
- 23% - Yes. But not enough to make me gay. (NTTAWWT)
- 9% - Absolutely. We're talking open sobbing. Like an infant with a tooth infection. Or a pregnant woman.
The next poll will require two rounds of judging just to get the nominations sorted out. More on that later.

Poll: Have You Ever Cried After a UGA Win?

This is not what I've done.
Have you ever cried after a UGA win? And if so, how about telling us which game(s) in the comments area. The only ones I remember actually shedding multiple tears afterwards were Auburn 2002 and UT 2000. I was a basket case immediately before and after the Michael Johnson catch, but not like the photo above. I promise.
Note A: Shedding a tear pre-game during the Battle Hymn Solo happens to many a man. I think that's mainly because of all the construction at Sanford Stadium...you know those paint fumes can really make a dude's eyes water. So that doesn't count.BTW -- I can only confess to hearty man tears. Not chick tears. If you're a woman and you cry after a UGA win, those are still man tears. If you have in fact sobbed openly after a win, you might as well come clean and confess...your tailgate buddies are only going to rat you out anyway.
Nor have I done this.
Note B: If you cried after a UGA loss, I don't want to know anything about it. That's between you and your husband / day care supervisor.
So fess up! Poll is over on the right.
