About Rodney Garner

I have privately held deep concerns about Coach Rodney Garner's results on the field the past few years. I've kept almost all of those concerns off the blog because Garner is such a lightening rod for a subset of fans of a variety of reasons.

With all of that said...Rodney Garner coached his ass off this year. We have our best defensive line since 2004, and it's not just a talent upgrade. Our guys are playing the position with great technique and fire.

If you're going to bitch about a guy. You gotta step up and admit when he's doing a great job. Thus, this post.

Maybe he'll threaten to leave in order to get a raise again ;)

I've had some experience with Rodney and, without getting into the details, my opinion of him personally has closely mirrored my (and your) opinion of his coaching abilities.

Suffice to say, I'll agree with your assessment of his on-field prowess this year. That doesn't mean the other half of the equation has changed, however.

Anyway, go figure - me, a Dawg fan, finds something to b*tch about during such a joyous week.

I guess deep down the collective Dawg Nation can all slap hands on that one.

In that vain let me say that I've fussed about CMR & the staff about not making adjustments in previous seasons. This year it's been great to see them make the needed schematic & personal adjuments based a on the skills of the players available for each game.

Anon 7:07 pm,

Rodney was paid grossly under market when he was asking for more cash, and he repeatedly stayed for less money than he could've gotten elsewhere.

An employee shouldn't have to put a foot out the door to be paid properly.

That nonsense was a function of Damon being a twit about financial issues.

Are you sure that the improved line play is due to Garner's coaching? You sure it isn't due to Grantham? Grantham has a lot of experience coaching the defensive line.
