Branden Smith (Image: Hipple)
A commenter yesterday reminded me that Isaiah Crowell and Branden Smith are both going to wear jersey #1 this season. This means they can't both be on the field at the same time.
So...what's the over under on the number of penalties we get because they are in the game at the same time? I say 1.5 and I'm taking the over.
Flip side...what's the over/under on the number of times we hear Richt say that he can't play Smith on offense more because of the confusion their jersey situation creates. I'm going with 2.5 and taking the over again.
Thoughts?

I like the under for both on the field at the same time. Zero confidence in Bobo the Clown. I will take the over for Richt's response. Neither will enhance this team's chances of winning.
Ugh, that isnt even something I would think about. I understand players wanting to have their number and the importance this promise can play in recruiting, but dangit if two of potentially our best offensive weapons cant be on the field at the same time.
Obviously Crowell cant play every down but having a somewhat arbitrary barrier to having them both on the field at the same time just kills me.
Just reading that got me angry. It's so sad that this is what we've come to expect.
This is so lame. To me, players sharing numbers is generally reserved for teams that play Thursday night games. See South Carolina (Lattimore and someone else) and Arkansas (Ahmad Carroll and someone else).
I'll be disappointed if this doesn't get resolved before the Boise game, but I'll be furious if this is used as an excuse by CMR. I have as much patience with him as anyone, but there's really no excuse for letting this persist.
What about the over/under on the number of times the other team's defense gets caught completely off-guard when Smith comes in to sub out Crowell? Whatever it is, I'd take the under... Sigh.
Paul, I think it's ridiculous that we have to have discussions about jersey numbers and how it could impact our on-field strategy. I think Coach Richt should sit down with both of them, "split the baby," and take the number off the roster for this year for the good of the team.
Can you imagine how the crowd will react if we have this penalty called at home against USCe at a crucial point and we end up losing a close game? I don't want to think about it.
I dont see us using Branden as much on offense with Nick Marshall to do that instead.. OR the numbers could get switched for a player.. after all #3, and #4 just became available for a couple of guys to take
The player can switch numbers, meaning during a punt or kickoff, branden can slip on another jersey. While it illegal for a player to wear the same number as another on field player, it is not illegal for a player to wear multiple numbers during a game.
Don't worry, Richt will address this. On the first play of the Boise State game when both are on the field at the same time, he'll burn a timeout.
Step one to not doing stupid things is to not specifically plan to do stupid things.
They need to settle it with paper rock scissors and be done with it.
I can really see Joe Paterno letting this happen. Or Vince Dooley for that matter. Ridiculous.
RedStripeDawg beat me to it, the over/under shouldn't just include penalties, but should also include timeouts Murray has to burn when he looks up and sees two #1's in the huddle.
Bring back tailback numbers in the 30s!
JaxDawg -- I agree with what you wrote, but I'm not publishing it with that much profanity.
I don't roll with the GD or F bombs on here. My dad reads the site.

Crowell is a freshman- check your ego at the door and take a different number.
