2008 Georgia Bulldog Pre-Game Scoreboard Video (sorta)

I took last year's UGA pre-game scoreboard video, and I edited it to the full length of Nickelback's version of Elton John's Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting*. Plus, I added more Munson and Scott Howard highlight clips. It's basically a "what if" the pre-game scoreboard video were a full length song instead of 60 seconds or so.

The audio transition at the beginning is a little dicey, but it's not bad. I got all the clips I wanted except for the Mikey Henderson catch against Bama.

Thanks to IronChefTurducken, UGAMummra, Stu508, Groo, UGAHairyDawgs, RedStripe, and others for the highlights and help.

I hope you like it.

The Bama Bomb Revisited: A rose by any other name...

Matt Tovrog

As discussed here, The Cherrishinski is the Official Beverage/Food of Doom(TM) for the Dawgs. It has been the subject of numerous blog articles, a podcast from the Realist and JMac as well as a profile in the AJC. Backstory for any newbies to this site:
In his book Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, Warren St. John talks about traveling with some Alabama fans who invented a drink/popper called the "Bama Bomb." The Bama Bomb consists of cherries marinated in golden grain alcohol for a period of weeks or months.

After the 2005 UT game, Dawgnoxious took a large jar of cherries and marinated them in a Golden Grain/Makers Mark mix. The creation debuted Friday night before the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. We all made a pact that if Georgia (quarterbacked by Joe T) won the Gator game this hellish creation would forever be known as "The Cherrishinski."
We lost the game, but The Cherrishinski reappeared for the Auburn game that same year. Another loss. JMac and The Realist tempted fate and added it to their tailgate as profiled in the AJC in 2006, and it foreshadowed the debacle at home vs. the Vols. A loss they are unwilling to pin on their fruity friend.

A full jar of Cherrishinskis now sits in the basement of Butts-Mehre as described by Dawgs-N-Suds.

Why bring this up now?
Well, we've dabbled with some quasi similar creations at our tailgate including The Cherry Hoage which seems to vary from week to week in recipe, but somehow involves Makers Mark and Cherries (without the aging process).

And now, TheUnknownStuntman (a regular commenter on this site) has proposed the rebirth of the Cherrishinski as:

"The Knowshon Moreshino."

First, brilliant name. But I wonder if we're tempting fate here? Is the margin of error for the Bama game wide enough to support a venture so close to its ill fated predecessor? With a name that good, we need some kind of drink to go along with it.

Agree? Disagree? Suggested new recipe?

Bryant Denny Wallpaper: Peace Offering for Bama Fans

IronChefTurducken took this shot from the cheap seats in Tuscaloosa. I'm mainly posting it here because it's such a quality shot. Click to enlarge and get the wallpaper sized version of Bryant-Denny Stadium at night.

Lunch Time Dawgly Headlines

Image: Georgiadogs.com

Let me preface this by saying, has anyone purchased a copy of the SI with the Bulldogs on the cover? I couldn't find one yesterday, and IronChefTurducken had the same experience in Athens. Are they out or are they sold out?

Headlines
  • More gushing praise for AJ Green. He seems like a kid that would really be susceptible to having a big head, but then you look at how he handled his recruitment. No "hat dance press conference" and no wishy washy stuff. Despite local media manufactured rumors out of the low country, he stuck by his early commitment and is now working for a starting job. Hopefully that attitude holds.

  • Georgia's Overlooked Defensive Unit - I first read this headline and thought? Overlooked...that's not right. Then I went back and looked at a pre-season video I'm working on. Hmmmmm.....yeah.....it's mostly offensive highlights. So fair point.

  • Catching up with Demiko Goodman. I was interested to see this profile piece on him. Each year it seems like someone takes a big step out of the shadows and into Prime Time for UGA. Marcus Howard in 2007 is a great example. When Goodman has played, he has played very well. The problem has been getting / keeping him healthy.

  • Just what we're looking for? A few days ago, I said, "I'd like to see an update on Carlton Thomas' progress so far." Ask and ye shall receive. DawgPost.com has an update on Thomas.

  • I also wondered aloud if Justin "Bean" Anderson would get / stay motivated enough to become the dominating force that his physical tools would suggest is possible. Well...either Tanner Strickland is coming on fast or Bean is keeping it lazy because Tanner is gaining on him.
Lastly, the long lost Red & Black March has now been arranged for a brass band. The Athens Brass Choir put together a new arrangement for the 90+ year old lost "fight song." It's still too circus-ish, but it's come a long way from "no human alive has played it before" to this. The Anti-Orange Page has the download. Still needs to be more angry and bada$$.

A little more on the celebration thing

Chip Towers is expecting Coach Richt to receive a fine and/or a reprimand of some sort from the Southeastern Conference. I'm also expecting something along those lines. Frankly, I'd be shocked if Richt wasn't fined, and it'll be worth every penny.

(Image: Just after "Camera Incident" that drew the second flag. Photo by IronChefTurducken. Click to enlarge.)

If Mike Adams wanted to finally get some fans on his side, he'd match the fine to the charity of Richt's choice. He would then publicly back his coach in writing to the SEC. He could be polite and civil about it, but he should back his guy.

Around the Blogosphere:
-- UgaMummra has put The Celebration to music. Instant classic.

-- Senator Blutarsky has a series of articles on Class and The Celebration. I find myself in near total agreement with everything he says. In one of his articles, he points to Spurrier's smart ass comments on the situation.

-- Mark Schlabach gives the whole incident some historical perspective without coming down or endorsing the situation. On the other end of the spectrum, one blogger called it the most classless moment in college football history. Now, there's some OMG! HYPERBOLE!11!!1! Personally, I'm a fan of Woody Hayes punch on the Clemson kid or the GT 222-0 score against Cumberland for the most classless ever moment, but I'm open to other nominations.

Snowy Sanford Stadium and North Campus Pics

Image: NoopsDawg

The View from the Upper Deck blog has pictures of snow covered North Campus and Sanford Stadium. The small pics on his site don't do the images justice. Click on the pics to enlarge.

Update: Dancing in the Endzone (a newer UGA blog) has more snow pics. If I were to label this collection, it would be called "Life in the Big 10." That's sort of what came to me after seeing the tractor plowing Sanford Drive.

We're also hoping to get some photos uploaded to our own blog after IronChefTurducken's power comes back on.

Because we're nuts, we're kicking off at 12:00 vs. WKU

image Georgia Sports Communications

Update: It looks like the game will be at 12:30 afterall. The JP site's 12:00 listing apparently deals with the start time of their telecast. Not of the game. - pwd

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun had this one first. Although, IronChefTurducken had the more accurate info from Lincoln Financial.

Apparently, the Gators didn't want to start their season at 12:30 vs. Southern Miss in the sweltering Florida heat. So they convinced the SEC to let them play at 6:00 pm. The SEC still needs a game for 12:00, so UGA will play WKU at that time on Lincoln Financial Sports (formerly known as JP Sports).

Why would UGA play a game at 12:00 in the slamming early season heat, while the Gators are so smart as to play one at 6:00 pm?

In my opinion, it's because Mike Adams is hell bent on having an early game kickoff to showcase how his new tailgate restrictions reduced trash and unruly fan behavior. Never mind the fact that everyone tailgates less for small games.

If you weren't planning on attending the game, this is a huge win for you. You'll be able to see it on TV. If you were planning to attend the game, it absolutely blows.
