Morning Headlines

Let's start it off with ESPN's SEC Preview. It's Loose Bolts and Mark May providing unmatched knowledge and insight (end sarcasm), and then we'll look around at some recent news:
  • 2008 vs. 2004 - Mark Bradley compares this group to the loaded for bear UGA squad of 2004. The issue most folks have with that '04 squad was the terminal bed wetting against the Vols. That game sort of shows the problem with a tough schedule. You have to bring your A game every week, or you will get beat.

  • Team Health - David Hale says the team should get a lot healthier this week. UGASports.com specifically looks at the health of the DEs.

  • SEC TV Schedule - JimFromDuluth has his SEC TV Projections up on the Anti-Orange Page. In case you missed it, CBS put their TV schedule for the year up on Friday. We linked to it, and then suddenly CBS yanked it off line again. It could change, but here's the 2008 tentative Georgia Bulldog TV schedule.

  • Recruiting - The AJC's Super 11 for the state is up.

  • Young OLinemen - On Thursday, Towers blogged about Ben Jones at OL. I missed it then so I figured I'd link over now. I really see Cordy Glenn starting at guard, but I don't see Ben Jones doing that right away. I imagine we'll see more of a rotation with him and Chris Davis. I just can't imagine that Richt is going to put two freshmen side by side (C Jones / OG Glenn) for a second year in a row. DawgPost says Glenn is making a big move.

  • ASU Ticket Update - If you missed it last week, ASU sold out of UGA single game tickets for now. They won't put any more on sale until Sept. 9th (if any are left). We also provided an update on what to do with ASU season tickets that you're not going to use. You can donate them to charity.
Have a good week.

So is it just me, or is anyone else curious as to why the only clips shown of the Gaytors are a still shot of Teabag and clips from UF's Orange and Blue game. Of course their running back looks good running against Florida's defense (and #2 at that). So does Sister Mary. I realize those are the only clips they have, but comeon. They fact that UF's one-dimensional isn't our fault.

Mark May can kiss my ass.

If we would have had a decent field goal kicker, we would have won that 2004 Tennessee game. Andy Bailey missed a fairly easy field goal just barely wide left (I can't remember if it was the second or third quarter). Had he made it, we could have kicked a FG to win it at the end instead of that awful final play.

(Yeah, Yeah...and if a frog had wings...blah, blah, blah)

The point was that a field goal kicker can be the difference between a season to remember and one to forget. Bailey was a freshmen that year and on scholarship.

See where I'm going with this?

Dawg 19 -

You think Andy Bailey would have made a game winning field goal against Tennesse?

Just think about that for a minute...

Lou Holtz seems to have gotten past his hatred for UGA. Mark May continues to be an arrogant jackass. Can't believe he didn't manage to bring up how much better Pitt is than everyone else in his SEC preview.

Anon 10:31...

Read the first sentence of my post.

Thanks.

(BTW...we DID have a walk-on who was a decent field goal kicker that year named Brandon Coutu. It makes me wonder if Richt felt obligated to use Bailey in the beginning due to the scholarship).

Donated. Thanks for the tip and the update on the tip.

Yet another reason why I think the Alabama game is the toughest one on our schedule.

It's lesson time: in 2004 everyone was focused on LSU. We wanted revenge, and we wanted it bad. Them beating us in Baton Rouge kept us from demolishing Ole Miss for our 2nd straight SEC Championship. So we destroyed them in epic fashion. ..and we all know the implosion that followed 7 days later.

Coming in to 2008, everyone wants to destroy South Carolina for similar reasons. And we will, and it won't be close. 7 days later.......

Hobnail....

Bama is 14 days after SC.

It goes...

GSU
CMU
at SC
at ASU
vs Bama
-- idle --
vs UT

Maybe CMR will bring in Mark May to give a pregame speech as one of his patented motivational techniques this season. I'd think it would work, but no way May lives through that

I'd like to know what is May's qualifications? Where does ESPN get clowns like him?
